The "top R&D brains" line does not survive the data. Harvard, Stanford and MIT have 170, 141 and 85 Highly Cited Researchers on Clarivate's 2025 list. No IIT even ranks among the leading institutions. That research gap does not make the SC/ST Act the villain.

What do you want now? You don't want police to register an FIR after a student's death and when the family & friends are alleging months of casteist remarks and threats?

Well, the SC/ST Act exists to deter and punish caste-based atrocities. If the professors were already generating world-leading innovative research at IITs, the citation, Nature Index and patent numbers would not look like this.

No other good univ around the world have such a ranking. And it's such an irrelevant number, you are not allowed to put it even on your resume.

Do Indian people understand how seriously cheating and plagiarism is treated in universities around the world? They are saying "he cheates but the system... ". The system did exactly what it should. Everywhere students are rusticated permanently and blacklisted from getting admitted in any institution for even copying homework (I've seen this happening to international students). That's how serious academia works. And any self-harm post that is not the responsibility of the system. You had no business being in the system if you couldn't cope. Either don't cheat or take the L and move on.

⚠️Dark reality of IITs

Having completed graduation from IIT Guwahati , I must state that casteism is there at IITs. Maybe sometimes light, sometimes very cruel, in one form or the other.

I still try to mentor few students, one being from IIT Kharagpur who often shares how he have to face casteist slurs!

At the same time, I must mention in my batch 7 out of 10 toppers were from reserved category, but casteism still persists in the system like anything.
