I know a lot of South Indian restaurant owners in Surat, and hardly any of them speak Gujarati.
They communicate in Hindi, and no Gujarati takes offense. In fact, far from being offended, they happily speak Hindi with them and enjoy the interaction.
Before you come up with "they learnt the local language," let me tell you, Hindi isn't the native language of Gujarat.
Gujaratis are okay with it because they know learning every language isn’t possible. So, let’s communicate in a common language and stay united.
Leave restaurants aside, even in banks and other gvt offices, there are a lot of Hindi-speaking employees, and nobody cares.
Does it make the Gujarati language extinct? Is their culture ending? Lol, no. It’s flourishing more than any other regional language…
