Decision making for complex problems in conservation management. Led by Eve McDonald-Madden, affiliated with @UQ_CBCS, @EnviroDecisions. Big fan of networks.
In our new paper, Manuela Mediolar explains how fishing policies can lead to smaller fish in the ocean & on the plate. We propose new balanced harvest metrics & optimize them under a yield constraint https://t.co/NrOHVPlqN3 w Jerzy Filar & Sabrina Streipert @PittTweet#austms2023
1/6 Bees are great as they pollinate our beloved coffee! Sadly, habitat homogenization is threatening their survival. Our study explores solutions to maximize coffee production and land for restoration to diminish their decline🧵 @RKRunting@McMadLab @MayfieldLabMelb
How do we feed and house a developing world while improving the #environment? @ChrisOBryan89 explains some of the exciting new tools and approaches out of @UQ_CBCS and @McMadLab to identify win wins for humans and #nature#conservation @UQscience
It's finally out! The MOO-GAPS model optimises global livestock production to efficiently reduce GHG emissions. Such great work by Adam Castonguay, Eve McDonald-Madden, @MattHHolden , @iamMarioHerrero , and all. @deakinresearch, @DeakinSEBE https://t.co/je47H3A7UH
Our new paper on sustainability trade-offs in the beef industry shows that current global beef production is inefficient (in terms of costs & emissions) we could reduce emissions 34–85% without increasing costs. Led by Adam Castonguay @naturesustainab

Does one cat in the trap equal to two rats in the bush? Or 77?
Check out our new paper introducing the idea of invasive species equivalence when it comes to protecting threatened species.

Can't wait to edit and share my next vlog interview:
I spoke with @McMadLab about making math fun, better conservation decisions and why she left a government job to start a phd.
Coming soon to the Conservation Hackers vlog:

Awful, awful stuff. We need to examine and rectify this in Australia too, bullying is absolutely systemic.
Bullying in science: largest-ever national survey reveals bleak reality https://t.co/c9dewOV0Qs
2/5 We accounted for the spatial variances of land opportunity cost to examine the trade-offs and synergies among biodiversity conservation, carbon and water services maintenance, and investments that are social equitable at the national scale using #Colombia as a case study.
3/5 We found that there're trade-offs between water services and biodiversity, and between social equity and biodiversity. Therefore, targeting just one of these objectives may lead to poor outcomes for the others. However, there's a low trade-off between carbon and biodiversity.
Multi-objective decisions are thwart with trade-offs and ecosystem services to guide sustainable land use is no different. Check out @SofiaLop11 paper exploring these trade-offs for water and carbon services as well as social equity!!
1/5 Payment for Ecosystem Services have a big potential to protect biodiversity while achieving social and economic benefits. However, defining their objectives and the spatial allocation is not easy task. Our framework explores trade-offs among objectives https://t.co/sZe3prkAyM
The eighth @EnviroDecisions Alliance webinar will be given by Prof Mark Burgman (Imperial College) titled ‘Forecasting and expert judgement for environmental decisions’, hourly from 10th Dec. For registrations, click here: https://t.co/onitHIiypk
I am so happy to have received the 2019 Dean’s Award for Outstanding Higher Degree by Research Theses! It was an awesome surprise to obtain this award after two years of graduating 🎓 ! #UQChemEng
