@JacobSh61423481 I think the pressure of saving more people than the lives he takes/will take weighs more heavily on him and to him, his actions are for positive actions on society #I2E21
@MinhNamNguyen96 This is exactly what is happening in third-world countries that are used to make the machine of capitalism work. It's easier as a group/society to hide the suffering and distance in order not to feel like we are part of the problem. #I2E21
@lbarcol I agree with this. A lot of people want accountability to be placed upon people but in actuality, they just want to punish individuals for their immoral actions #I2E21
@nangelinee I couldn't help but think about that exact event as I go through the modules today. Unfortunately, it's a great example to look at. Even though he was not doing the harm in a lot of ways he was allowing harm to be done #I2E21
@Stephen94382938@JonathanDaity I absolutely agree with this stance. It's always easier to distance one's self because it leads to individuals putting an emotional distance from the event as well #I2E21
The story of Omelas seems dystopian and dark but it could be seen in the way child labor is used around the world and how exploitation of the poor is used to feed into capitalism. #I2E21
The pervert ex. is a great ex. of the reality of putting Utilitarianism into motion. Only looking at positive pleasures doesn't really align when looking at humankind overall. There will always be a group of people who get pleasure from violating the privacy of another. #I2E21
@_zahrawest People as a society, feel comfort in the laws that are placed and it merely implements a sense or feeling of "peace" when in actuality, if looked deeper into it "peace" is just regulated control and an imbalance of power. #I2E21
The cycles of heartbreak and building one's self up is always very strenuous, time-consuming, and emotionally challenging. So if I was Susan, I don't think I would have minded going out knowing everything was okay even if it was a falsehood #I2E21
The Susan situation brought a lot of questions to mind. One, how did no one in her life want her to know the truth? Two, is it morally wrong to not intervene when you know someone's understanding of their life is a facade? #I2E21
@lydi_sacheli I think this is a great conversation to start! I think ultimately the decision should be made by an animal nutritionist but if it does no harm, should people consider feeding dogs/cats plant-based food? #I2E21
Singer's ideology struck a chord with me especially using the analogy of the taste of meat vs the actual suffering of the animal. Putting the value of another animal's life for momentary pleasure is not right #I2E21
When it comes to meat consumption. one of the biggest issues is the accessibility of meat. This then affects the cost of meat. If it is widely available and cheap, people are more inclined to purchase. If the cost goes up, the treatment of these animals would change #I2E21
I know countries like China won't allow makeup to be sold unless it's tested on animals. So you find big companies like Loreal market their makeup w/o animal cruelty in the US but also test makeup on animals for a different market. Should they be held accountable? #I2E21
