All over the world, countries were celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Two struck me as among the most profound - Germany’s Brandenburg Gate and Japan’s.
Germany was our enemy in WWI and WWII. The Brandenburg Gate became a symbol of the Cold War - literally dividing the freedom of Western Civilization from the oppression of the USSR (the second “S” stands for socialism, btw). And now, 80 years later, Germany stands united as a free country, the USSR has fallen (Mr. Gorbachov TORE down that wall). And they are celebrating WITH us.
And Japan. Dear Japan. We brought an end to WWII by dropping two nuclear bombs on them. Then we helped them rebuild. And 80 years later, they stand free and strong, and they are among our closest allies.
If you’re ever tempted by the news of the day, by partisanship, or by those who spew division to think America has not been one of the greatest forces for good in the world and is not the greatest country in the history of the world, remember these pictures and what they represent.
This is so despicable. I don’t care what your political persuasion is, falsely calling CPS on a parent is just wrong.
And before anyone thinks about piling on - regular SWATTING against anyone - also wrong. And if it’s over politics, that’s absurd on top of wrong.
See also, shooting someone in the ear, throat, or anywhere else because you don’t like what they’re saying or their policy positions.
If I missed any examples of stupid on top of evil, then just assume that’s what I think of them.
Pete Buttigieg said Friday his family was targeted by a false report to Child Protective Services that led to 24 hours of confusion and separation from his four-year-old twins overnight.
Buttigieg had said previously in a post on Substack that a team from CPS showed up to his house and said an allegation had been leveled against him concerning the twins, whom he and his husband Chasten adopted in 2021.
Michigan State Police said in a statement that the police and CPS "determined the report was false," and condemned false reports to law enforcement.
Because the SCOTUS case could find the government’s position to be unconstitutional, which would likely make the legislation unconstitutional. But if SCOTUS rules more narrowly, holding that Congress *could* pass the type of legislation that would pass constitutional muster, then Paul’s legislation could proceed.
Incredible news for my friend and colleague on the Ohio Twelfth District Court of Appeals. @ByrneForJudge is a great judge and an even better human. He will serve our nation well.
