The black sheep (truth teller) in many families becomes the identified patient. And the psychiatric world is set up to medicate that evil black sheep. So the family never looks at itself, the black sheep gets numbed out, and the truth disappears.
Instead of telling people that they have chronic mental illnesses and “there’s nothing more we can do,” let’s take an entirely new approach.
Let’s look for the root cause or causes of their symptoms and help them heal and recover.

A trauma informed perspective understands that "parts" work isn't limited to Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Trauma tends to splinter & segment even the healthiest humans. Realistic recovery necessarily involves relating to ALL our "parts" w/ compassion & patience.
Someone needs to hear this: telling the truth about a situation is only a betrayal in dysfunctional families. Healthy families don’t require secrecy or silence.
Most people don't want the truth, because the truth is highly uncomfortable. It's confronting and threatens the ego. The ego prefers to only hear things that protect our self image. But we can only change our lives when we accept the sting that comes with the truth.

Trauma survivors are not always hanging onto the past, the past hangs onto them in the form of visceral sensations, stored in the nervous system like unwanted guests. If it was a problem of cognition, then letting go would be our greatest accomplishment in recovery.

A cycle breaker is one who received the same trauma their parents did & chose to face it head on so they don’t repeat it. They’re wise enough to recognize the potential to do what was done to them & tender enough to sacrifice their comfort in order to break the cycle & heal.
If money wasn’t an issue, everyone says they would pursue some kind of art. It is by design that art is undervalued and undercompensated. Because art has the ability to radically change the way we think and feel and act. Art is a threat to the status quo and to the state.
