Thank you to @GenWellProject for hosting a dynamic and inspiring conference on the power of #socialconnection! It was a pleasure to hear more about the great work happening across this space and to network with so many incredible, like-minded people! We're also grateful for the opportunity to present, alongside @HappyCitiesTeam, our shared vision for fostering social connection in multi-unit housing.
@petebombaci, the founder of GenWell, reminded us that “Self-care doesn’t always need to be by yourself”'—a sentiment that resonates deeply with our work at HNC. Like Pete, we find that small acts of kindness and support from our social networks, neighbours, and even strangers can deeply impact a person’s wellbeing. That’s why our work is dedicated to creating more opportunities for those meaningful moments.
If you know a disabled person on disability benefits in BC, today would be a good day to send them some support - material or words.
Elections are absolutely terrifying at this level of poverty. There are no good results for us but there is definitely worse. #BCelection2024
Less than half of BC's eligible voters voted yesterday.
Doug Ford is in power because of 18.2 percent of eligible voters in Ontario.
The only movement Canada needs is a voting movement.
@nikkiskuce Assisted telephone voting is available for voters in emergency or exceptional circumstances who are not otherwise able to vote. Voters in Dease Lake are encouraged to contact us at 1-800-661-8683 to discuss their options.
It's been an absolute honour to meet so many of you over the last month - now let's do this. Find your nearest voting place at https://t.co/z1VEzuAP5p and vote before 8pm!
If you live in or are planning to vote in Vancouver-Point Grey as a UBC student, faculty member or staff, you should know that the BC Conservative Party's candidate, Paul Ratchford, has repeatedly said he wants to "defund UBC" in the recent past.
He has said this due to his opposition to distance learning, masking and vaccinations during COVID, and because of his opposition to EDI practices (or really anything that even highlights the experiences of marginalized groups).
Beyond this, it was the @bcndp who eliminated interest rates on provincial student loans, capped tuition increases for domestic students, created the BC Access Grant and funded thousands of new housing beds on university campuses. The Conservatives want to undo all of that progress.
If you haven't already, vote tomorrow, Oct 19th, for a government that doesn't want to "defund UBC".

Vote for a government that values and adequately funds higher education. Don't vote Conservative.

We should really tax billionaires out of existence & use OUR funds for climate, health care, and housing. They’ll be just fine as multi millionaires, trust.
It's a milestone for Burnaby.
The first "demovicted" tenants will soon return to new homes at old rents. A developer says profit is still possible under this city policy. Though an advocate worries about those falling through the cracks.

Again and again. Cruel. Inhumane. Ineffective.
Sweeps do not work. They only disperse the problem and hurt people. Want encampments to go away? Housing-focused resolution is the only effective solution.
Thanks to all who attended last week's 'Housing that Connects Us: Solving the Affordability Puzzle' webinar w/ @HappyCitiesTeam & Robert Brown at Chesterman Properties. Look for a followup post soon w/ webinar recording, resources & the incredibly rich discussion that followed!💥
