Our department will not require GRE scores for applications for Fall, 2021 admission. GRE scores will not be used in our admissions evaluation. However, because some fellowships still use the GRE in their evaluation process, we are choosing to make submission of scores optional.
Congrats to @Corbin13Isodope for successfully defending his Ph.D on Dec. 9! Corbin's work in zebrafish used eDNA and dPCR techniques to develop novel water assays to further characterize transmission dynamics of the Pseudoloma neurophilia pathogen. #microbiology#PhD
Congrats to @BrycePenta who successfully defended his dissertation in late November! His work examined the role of phytoplankton in marine biogeochemical cycles. Everyone in the micro department is excited to see Dr. Penta continue to do exemplary work as his career progresses.
Our new research comparing replicate 16S datasets prepped similarly but sequenced on dif platforms shows inconsistencies in #microbial diversity & composition, urging caution for comparative studies. @AlelimonHA@VegaThurber@baumlab@SamStarko Read more: https://t.co/hK0FXR9j8V
Here's what Jacob has to say about his work "The goal of this research is to improve our understanding of each probiotic bacteria's mechanism of action to make them a safer and more informed choice as therapeutics for metabolic disease in the future."

Jacob Pederson's research focuses on identifying the mechanisms by which probiotic bacteria can influence a host's metabolic phenotypes. He uses a combination of wet lab and computational methods to investigate this interaction.
