It was both encouraging and inspiring to meet with the second cohort of 25 Somaliland engineers undertaking advanced training in Israel in the fields of water management, storage systems, and modern water technologies.
Investing in knowledge and strengthening the skills of our professionals is essential to achieving sustainable national development. These engineers will play a vital role in modernizing Somaliland’s water sector and advancing the development of our national infrastructure.
My Government places the highest priority on expanding and improving public infrastructure, particularly access to water. We are committed to ensuring that, within the next three years, every citizen of Somaliland has access to clean, safe, and reliable water.
I am confident that the partnerships, expertise, and investments we are building today will provide a strong foundation for realizing our national vision and securing a more prosperous future for our people.
Today, a new chapter in history has been written. I extend my deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu @netanyahu the Government of Israel, and the people of Israel for becoming the first nation in thirty-five years to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign and independent state, affirming its nationhood, independence, and inherent right to self-determination.
This courageous and historic decision stands as a testament to the resilience, political maturity, and unwavering aspirations of the people of Somaliland. For more than three decades, our nation has remained steadfast in its commitment to peace, democracy, stability, and the democratic expression of the will of its people. Somaliland will never forget this historic gesture of friendship, mutual respect, and principled recognition.
We firmly believe that Somaliland and Israel will build a deep and enduring partnership founded on mutual respect, security, innovation, development, and a shared commitment to advancing the prosperity and well-being of our peoples.
I am also pleased to announce that the Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel have formally signed a Strategic Joint Declaration of Cooperation, marking a historic milestone in relations between our two nations. This landmark agreement establishes the foundation for a lasting strategic partnership and deepens cooperation in the fields of agriculture, water management, security, technology, investment, economic development, and infrastructure.
This achievement represents a defining moment in Somaliland’s national journey and a significant milestone for its people. It will leave an enduring mark on our history and usher in a new era of partnership, opportunity, and international engagement.
Somaliland has prevailed.
“In Hargeisa, I made it clear: only #Israel will decide whom it recognizes and with whom it maintains diplomatic relations,” Israeli Foreign Minister @gidonsaar said during his visit to #Somaliland in January, reaffirming Israel’s sovereign right to determine its foreign policy and diplomatic partnerships.
Somalia’s president sparked outrage after condemning Somaliland’s ties with Israel, calling saluting the Israeli flag “a disgrace” and making remarks critics say were antisemitic and hostile toward Jews. Observers warn the rhetoric could inflame tensions across the Horn of Africa.
@HornDiplomat
I commend my friend, President of Somaliland @Abdirahmanirro, on his important decision to establish Somaliland’s Embassy in our eternal capital, Jerusalem.
The opening of the embassy in Jerusalem will be another significant step in strengthening relations between our countries and nations. We will work together to implement this decision soon.
This will make the Somaliland Embassy the eighth embassy in Jerusalem.
Mr. President, we look forward to hosting you soon in Jerusalem – our eternal capital!
The sacrifice, endurance and selfless patriotism of Somalilanders at home and abroad, is what has brought us to where we are today and who we are as a nation.
However, the road ahead and the challenges we are facing at the moment will demand a lot effort and vigilance from everyone of us! I am very confident that our resilient people are up to task.
May Allah bless and protect the Republic of Somaliland
