An invasive triploid (sterile) male Grass Carp was captured during the Asian Carp Program’s early detection surveillance activities in Jordan Harbour (Lake ON) on July 3, 2024. DFO continued work in the area for the remainder of the week, and no additional Grass Carp were found.
#ICYMI: USDA scientists and colleagues have found a new way to potentially corral and control the spotted lanternfly, an invasive threat to fruit crops and many plants. https://t.co/fVEgblAvPl
#InvasiveSpecies alert! Parrot feather has been found in Michigan waters. It has been limited to small ponds where management has been effective. Still, it's smart to remember that ornamental plants should never be allowed to spread into natural waterways. #MacrophyteMonday
@LesRobertson13@MichiganEGLE@MichiganDNR@nccisma@MiStateParks@MInvasives Hi Les, your local Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) are typically the folks that are "on the front lines" and follow up with surveying or treatments. If you are concerned, they would be the ones to get in touch with. Feel free to reach out to us for more info
Yellow floating heart is a menacing aquatic plant. Dense mats block flow, impede navigation, increase mosquito activity, and kill native #aquaticplants.
Keep an eye out for this one - and report to your local extension office if you find it.

⚠️Scientists in Michigan are asking for help documenting locations of invasive water primrose. Despite harsh winter conditions, 3 populations in Michigan have survived the winter & pose a risk to native plants.

#WednesdayWisdom: New blog post!
In the #GreatLakes & beyond, invasive species can wreak havoc on aquatic & terrestrial ecosystems. In several cases, the origin of an invasive species has been the release of exotic house pets into the wild.

EGLE staff are out sampling aquatic plant community on Higgins Lake today.
These surveys help monitor and better understand the distribution of aquatic #InvasveSpecies in lakes across the state.
AIS reports are shared on MISIN annually: https://t.co/8iusqjOONY #WaterQualityMonth
August is #TreeCheckMonth! Take 10 minutes to check your trees for signs of Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB).
The invasive beetle hasn’t been found in Michigan, but if introduced, could threaten the one billion maple trees in our state.
Oak wilt has been detected in Niagara Falls, Ontario, which is the first known detection in Canada. Oak wilt is an aggressive vascular disease of oak trees that can kill some species in as little as two weeks. Learn how to identify and report: https://t.co/dhHWDcIL7L
#DYK Asian longhorned beetle was intercepted 32 times at Canadian ports of entry between 1980-2008? Since 2020, #ALB has been declared eradicated from Toronto & Mississauga, but efforts to protect our forests, including our maples, continue.🍁 Learn more: https://t.co/vtqSl8caCx
Learning a new app can be daunting, so we created a short instructional video on how to use MISIN (an app to log invasive species locations). #misin#invasivespecies#instructionalvideo#ais#pests#jlwcisma Thank you Chris S. for filming and editing!

@serendity999 Hi there! That is by design - the species data viewer map currently processes each search criteria separately (Project, Species, etc) but feel free to reach out to us if you need more detailed data! :)
