I'm so tired of this egotistical, indulgent, romantic nonsense that treats art like some magical realm apart from the rest of the world.

There's nothing more inherently valuable about painting a picture than sewing your own clothes or growing your own food or building your own house.

Yet how many people rely on technology to expedite all those things and never lament about the lost "hero's journey" of not building their house plank-by-plank?

The "hero's journey" doesn't include never having to adjust to the reality of a changing world like everyone throughout history has done forever.

It's the exact opposite.

Either do the work to become a truly incredible painter whose art is worth buying despite more efficiently-created, inexpensive options, or find something better to do instead of whining that the world dared to change while you were in it.

That's your hero's journey.
