📢We strongly condemn Poland & the Baltic states’ intention to withdraw from @MineBanTreaty. This is not about military necessity - security in the modern world cannot be ensured by outdated and indiscriminate weapons such as AP mines. Read more📷👇

Every day, according to the @MineMonitor, an average of 15 people were killed or injured by #mines and explosive remnants of war in 2023.
Our teams are committed to #clearing the land of these deadly remnants and raising awareness about these dangers to prevent such #tragedies.
The years of Syrian government cluster munition attacks may now be over but threat from their explosive remnants remains. @hrw@MineMonitor recorded 100s of instances of use by Syrian government forces. Our first research from mid-2012: https://t.co/OUUAAVPEmC @banclusterbombs
Revisiting key findings from the #LandmineMonitor2024 and highlighting 25 years of progress under the #MineBanTreaty. Starting with **Universalization** : back in 1999, 47 States Parties&150 not part vs. Nov. 2024, 164 SP & 33 yet to join. A safer world is indeed within reach!
"After the accident, I rebuild my life thanks to NGOs. #VictimAssistance still often relies on civil society organisations. States must do their part too, with no excuse, no exception, and no delay!”
Says mine survivor Emilie Vath in @minefreeworld statement at #SiemReapSummit.
Srey Nang, on #LandmineMonitor2024 's cover, is one of many survivors worldwide who need lifelong support.
However, most landmine accidents happen in countries where health & rehabilitation services are scarce!
📢#VictimAssistance is primordial!

#Landmines are cruel weapons, however you look at them. Often waiting silently for their victim long after conflict has faded. 90% of their victims are civilians & 45% of those are children ‼️
We know this because @minefreeworld@MineMonitor has collected this data for decades
At #SiemReapSummit, states reaffirm 0 tolerance for landmines despite US-Ukraine transfer. New 5-year Action Plan adopted with focus on funding & risk education. ICBL work was crucial defending the treaty https://t.co/u7roa0FT5X #MineBanTreaty#LandmineSurvivorsRights
The #SiemReapSummit is an important moment for this conversation on the situation of AP mine contamination globally, incl the rise in use of improvised mines, promising land released from survey (TS/NTS) and noted opportunity for more disaggregated data & funding to national orgs
9 years after losing her leg from an EO accident, survivor Srey wants to be a doctor and help her family build a house. She shared her story at @minefreeworld's event on the 2024 Landmine Monitor, reporting the most mine casualties since 2011, with more than 1/3 being children.
En la #5RevCon se realizó el evento paralelo en el que se presentó @MineMonitor 2024
Mientras sigan ocurriendo víctimas y no se brinde apoyo a los afectados, nuestro trabajo no estará terminado. 💪💪
