I am excited to be able to share the first paper from my PhD research with the planetary science community! This paper reports the detection of apatite in lunar ferroan anorthosites, allowing for direct measurement of volatiles in the lunar magma ocean! #lunarvolatiles#FAN
Isotopic analysis of an apatite mineral in the lunar meteorite Arabian Peninsula 007, dating from 4467–4540 million years ago, indicates very early fractionation of volatiles and a very volatile-rich lunar crust. Hayden (@MiniMoonRocks) et al.: https://t.co/lzFS0IGWMr
They did it! It's been a joy to see the world come together to share a love for space, for the Moon, and for this completely amazing crew!
Also a nice bonus for the splashdown to coincide with my birthday! Found the most perfect statues for the occasion 🚀🇨🇦🧑🚀✨ #artemisII
The astronauts. Their ride around the Moon.
The Artemis II astronauts pose for a group photo after viewing their Orion spacecraft — which they named Integrity — in the well deck of USS John P. Murtha following their splashdown.
Approaching the near side of the Moon.
The Artemis II astronauts have surpassed the record for the distance from Earth at 1:56 ET (1756 UTC). This record was previously set during the Apollo 13 mission when the astronauts traveled 248,655 miles from Earth. The Moon continues to grow larger and larger in the windows of the Orion spacecraft as the Artemis II mission gears up to observe the far side. The astronauts are predicted to make their closest approach of the Moon around 7:02pm ET (2302 UTC).
The lunar flyby is happening! So proud of the mission team for getting to this milestone. During the flyby, my job as Artemis capcom is to help guide the crew with the help of the science team. https://t.co/ANWaWlKD89
Carroll, now a bright spot on our Moon, because four people, who traveled farther from Earth than any human in the 4.5-billion-year history of Earth has ever been, loved someone so much, they carried her the whole way there.
We’re halfway there.
At the time of posting this, the Artemis II mission is about halfway to the Moon. When the astronauts arrive, they will conduct a lunar flyby and collect scientific observations of the Moon’s surface.
A historic moment for Canada! 🚀 Artemis II launched at 6:35 pm (ET). CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen becomes the first Canadian to lift off for a mission around the Moon. Make sure to follow us to stay updated during the next 10 days! 🌕
For the first time in over 50 years, humans are Moonbound.
At 6:35 p.m. EDT (2235 UTC) NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft lifted off from the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, sending four astronauts on a planned test flight around the Moon and back. https://t.co/0Q9ZB4IWVI
My heart is with the Artemis II crew today!
I had the life-changing opportunity to train with these astronauts in Kamestastin Crater in 2023, and to meet the incredible humans who are about to make history. Your bravery and dedication inspire me 🌕✨ #ArtemisII#Moon

Seems fitting that my personality aligns best with Mission Specialist II, on Artemis II represented by 🇨🇦 astronaut Jeremy Hansen!

These limited edition Timbits have been released to celebrate the @csa_asc astronaut @Astro_Jeremy flying to the Moon with #ArtemisII on April 1! Jeremy was born and raised around London, Ontario!
NASA has announced plans for a Moon base, which is incredibly exciting!
What is needed to live for an extended time on the Moon?
