@JuxhinCelaEU Juxhin, I get your point. But closing benchmarks of Cluster 1 is exactly what it will tackle: rule of law, corruption, etc. Hardliners in the EU won’t tolerate or accept Albania if standards aren’t met. It keeps real pressure on reforms.

This is how Eric Wendt, @realDonaldTrump’s nominee for U.S. Ambassador to Albania, described the Albanian people before the United States Senate 🇺🇸🇦🇱

In his remarks during the nominations hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the experienced general demonstrated seriousness and leadership while emphasizing Albania’s strategic importance within NATO and the Western Balkans.

He stated that among his priorities are:

- Supporting Albania in the fight against corruption, transnational organized crime, and drug trafficking
- Strengthening security through support for Albania’s NATO commitments, increased defense spending, and expanded cybersecurity cooperation
-Promoting economic prosperity through the development of sectors such as artificial intelligence, energy, infrastructure, and mining, while ensuring fair conditions for American businesses and investors

The implementation of these priorities would strengthen the position of the United States in the region, support Albania’s development, and help preserve stability in the Balkans. These policies would contribute to greater stability and cooperation across the Western Balkans, benefiting not only Albania, but also Kosovo and Albanians in North Macedonia, Montenegro, and the Presheva Valley.

The Albanian people deeply value the enduring friendship between Albania and the United States of America. I wish General Wendt success in further strengthening this important relationship 🇺🇸🇦🇱

Crowds waved Albanian flags, alongside some US and Turkish flags, as smoke flares lit up the streets.

The protests form part of growing demands for expanded Albanian language rights and greater institutional recognition in North Macedonia.
