History teacher, subject lead and lead teacher for T&L. HA SLDP and NPQLT. Enjoyer of good coffee, good books and bad jokes. “Really sweet…like your gran.”
Students are nominated by staff to join Empower and today I also showed the girls the reasons behind their nominations (not showing staff names). I asked if they’d think the teachers would say the same now and it was a resounding NO to the quiet parts. Best hour of my week!
I run a Y10 girls group called Empower designed to build confidence (and smash the patriarchy) and this years cohort were my most shy to date. Today, during our last session, two came running in having walked down the catwalk for the Culture Day fashion show 😭
My reputation as the school gran was fully realised today when a girl in my form gave me a “bag of all your favourite things” with this inside 😭 so, so wholesome 😭
Champions of Year 7 sports day! We had a pep talk (channelled my inner Gareth Southgate as we fist bumped), morning stretches, banners and the most over the top chants 😂 #GoGo7CWO
At one point, a girl in my form shouted “miss this one’s for you” and blasted Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift 😂
I saw an opportunity (being sat next to a microphone) and I took it!
Today was GREAT! We took 200 students to Flamingo Land in the pouring rain and they loved every second. It must have been the coach karaoke we did on the way up (everything from wheels on the bus to Backstreet Boys) that hyped us up 😅
Raised by a single mother (who opened a woman’s refuge), grew up on a council estate, received free school meals. It’s so refreshing and hopeful to see someone (finally) come into the role understanding the realities of so many children she’ll be representing.
James Timpson OBE @JamesTCobbler has been appointed Minister of State (Minister for Prisons, Parole and Probation) in the Ministry of Justice @MoJGovUK.
7 years since I started my teaching career with @TeachFirst 😱 SO much has happened since then and I really cannot believe how quickly it’s gone. I still enjoy it as much as I did then AND I’m still in the same school I trained in 😁
While procrastination cleaning my classroom today, I decided to clean my mini whiteboards. This was at the bottom of the box so mustn’t have seen the light of day for years.
I would love to know:
A. What happened for the pupil to see the ‘bad side’ of me
And B. What I did 😂
Big thank you to @danlyndon for organising such a great two days and for giving my department the opportunity for so many of us to join 😊 bring on next year!
The @1972SHP conference this weekend was brilliant! So many great ideas and the Curriculum Paths have already been shared with my team in today’s curriculum planning meeting.
The history teacher community is so inspiring and everyone is just SO nice!
@erynsversion Yes me! Wasn’t told and our seats are now limited view! Where have you been moved from? I’m trying to work out if they’ve closed off the whole block?
@wheres_ally2016 Mine has changed and the new seats are £25 cheaper with no notification of being reimbursed the difference! The new seats are now also ‘restricted, limited view.’ Gobsmacked this has happened without being notified. @thisisanfield@taylorswift13@TicketmasterUK what’s happening?
I should have know from Monday morning when I was led on the floor in front of the whole of year 7 (who were waiting for assembly to start) as I tried to get a squirrel outside (it was hiding under the seating) that this week was going to be tough 😅
