I love this! Be the kind of person who celebrates the success of others. When you do, you’ll experience more success of your own and enjoy life a whole lot more.
Today, I’d like to take a moment to recognize and thank Ohio’s teachers and school administrators. As we know, we are in unfamiliar territory as distance learning is in full effect across the state.
@DelaneyMathews1@AshleyLanghals@AdobeSpark I think your point about making sure they’re practicing the intended skill is so important! I’m sure if students didn’t fully understand the game, it would be very easy for them to get off task
@missnungester@AshleyLanghals@AdobeSpark Does your CT model her thinking before or after the students have a chance to solve? I wonder if modeling after would give them a better chance at building their own understanding with the strategy that works best for them
@YeseniaCortes01 A19 I just had the opportunity to sit in on parent teacher conferences this week. My CT went over the results from the math assessment taken at the beginning of the year. She discussed strengths and areas the parents can work on at home for each child #OSUElemMath
@MrsN_Trimble@MsLutterloh Yes! I think little tricks like this is what made the fraction part of 1125 so confusing for a lot of us. Were we ever really taught what multiplying fractions means?
Q17 The Behrend article talks about how math rules and simple repetitions can lead to misunderstandings for students. What rules can you remember learning in schools? Do you think they were helpful or may have lead to misunderstandings? #OSUElemMath
@taiwanjacklin @DelaneyMathews1 I like this array! Though it may not be as efficient, it gives the table more meaning rather than just a listing a number. I can see how this would be beneficial to students, especially those who are visual learners.
@themisspeppers A15 I saw this when working with my Buckeye Buddy. I asked a compare subtraction problem and he tried to solve the problem several times with addition and it wasn’t working. I changed the type of subtraction problem and he quickly solved it without any confusion #OSUElemMath
@MissMantel@TheMissHirsch I love the cross curricular connection! You should check out the book 365 penguins too. I saw it the other day and there is a bunch you could talk about with math/multiplication!
@AnnRoFlo It was great to see them thinking so hard and getting so engaged. The lesson went on to writing their own problem about on of the groups and solving it #OSUElemMath
@AnnRoFlo A13. I sat in on a 3rd grade math lesson where they were engaged in a 3act task about multiplication. Her question to get them wondering was “what are things that come in groups of ___?” The students did a gallery walk and wrote down real life examples like eggs in a carton
@MissMantel My CT used compare and connect when trying to encourage the students to count on. For ex, when adding 8+3, students would count 8 then count 3 then count all together. My CT would show this strategy, then show counting on (8,9,10,11) to show how counting on is more efficient.
