I reread this every year.
I cry like a baby every year.
Todd Beamer died a father, husband, and hero.
Todd: Hello… Operator… listen to me. I can’t speak very loud. This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco. Our plane has been hijacked.
Lisa: I understand. Can they see you?
Todd: No. There are three that we know of. They have knives — razor knives, like box cutters. Someone announced from the cockpit there was a bomb. It sounded fake.
Lisa: Your name?Todd: Todd Beamer. United Flight 93.Todd: They killed one passenger in first class. They forced most of us back. Fourteen of us here. Five flight attendants. The guy with the bomb ordered us to sit on the floor.
Lisa: Are you okay?
Todd: We’re going down… wait. No. We’re leveling off. We changed directions. We’re flying east again.
Todd: A guy named Jeremy called his wife. She told him two planes hit the World Trade Center. Lisa, is that true?
Lisa: I have to tell you the truth. It’s very bad. Both towers are gone. A third plane hit the Pentagon. Our country is under attack. I’m afraid your plane may be part of their plan.
Todd: Oh God. Lisa, will you do something for me? Call my wife and my kids. Promise me you’ll call.
Lisa: I promise.
Todd: Our home number is… You have the same name as my wife. Lisa. We’ve been married ten years. She’s pregnant with our third child. Tell her I love her. I’ll always love her. We have two boys — David, he’s 3, and Andrew, he’s 1. Tell them their daddy loves them and he is so proud of them. The baby is due January 12th. I saw an ultrasound. We still don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy.
Lisa: I’ll tell them. I promise, Todd.(Lisa patches in the FBI.)
Agent: Todd, your plane is on a course for Washington. Best guess is the White House or the Capitol.
Todd: I understand. I’ll be back.
Todd: Everyone knows this isn’t a normal hijacking. We have decided we will not be pawns in their plot.
Lisa: What are you going to do?
Todd: Four of us are going to rush the one with the bomb. Then the cockpit. A stewardess is getting boiling water. We’ll take them out.
Todd: Would you pray with me?They pray the Lord’s Prayer. Then: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.
Todd: God help me. Jesus help me.Are you guys ready? Let’s Roll.
Last night, Donald Trump, our pathological liar-in-chief, said:
“Every single promise I made to you as a candidate, I’ve delivered on. I’ve delivered on everything.”
Really?
Well, let’s go down the list.
Since becoming president again, Trump promised:
✅ $5,000 DOGE dividend checks. A lie.
✅ $2,000 tariff dividend checks. A lie.
✅ $1,000+ checks by repealing ACA subsidies. A lie.
✅ A 10% cap on credit card interest rates. A lie.
✅ “The lowest drug prices in the world.” A lie.
✅ $2 a gallon gas. A lie.
✅ An end to inflation “starting on Day One.” A lie.
✅ An end to “endless wars.” A lie.
And now, after all of those lies, Trump wants you to believe that he will give every American adult a $5,000 check - but only if the Republicans win the midterms.
No. I don’t think so. The Trump Administration is not about helping working families. It’s about giving a trillion dollars in tax breaks to the 1% and throwing 15 million Americans off the health care they have.
Tragically, when I first saw the movie “Don’t Look Up” in 2021, it struck a chord with me. I felt viscerally that humans would find ourselves in a comparable place one day - and soon.
If you haven’t seen the movie, I’d recommend it. A quick recap: Humans were explicitly warned that a comet that could destroy Earth was heading rapidly toward us. And instead of doing anything to stop it, the president, elected leaders and billionaire CEOs just spewed some bullshit about all the “jobs the comet would create.” The media treated the comet as casual entertainment. The public was split and the entire thing gets politicized. The movie ends with nearly all of human life wiped out.
Just about a year ago I had the opportunity to join a bipartisan freshman class breakfast with Sam Altman. I was shocked when he said to us, “in 18 months, I’ll trust artificial superintelligence to run my company better than I can.” I regret I didn’t engage more on this issue immediately.
Now here we are - it’s 2026 and engineers at the world’s leading AI companies are telling us that there is a >10% chance that artificial intelligence could kill all humans. They’re not mincing their words in the slightest. Not because of present day AI capabilities, but because it is evolving so exponentially that we could be in a doomsday scenario in a year. One year.
This is fucking serious. We need to halt new advanced AI development. We need guardrails, transparency and emergency powers. We need more employees at these companies to speak out publicly, loudly and fearlessly until everyone is forced to listen. We need the media to be covering this 24/7 until elected officials are forced to act. We need the Trump Administration to treat this with the urgency it deserves. We need the ability to shut an AI model off if there’s a credible threat to human life. The list goes on - and we don’t even know what the full list entails because this is all happening so fast. That’s why we need urgent, bipartisan public hearings and committees dedicated to developing and enacting solutions expeditiously.
This isn’t partisan. Let’s stop with the bullshit and come together for the sake of our shared humanity. I’m a 34-year-old Democratic Congresswoman, and I’d like to live to see my late 30s. I know my Republican colleagues want the same for themselves and their loved ones.
None of us can afford to be complacent about this any longer.
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of Americans signed their names to a piece of parchment and made a promise no nation had ever made before: that we're all created equal, endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We're the only nation in history built not on ethnicity, or blood, or geography but on an idea. That's always been what makes us exceptional. We chose that path 250 years ago but that’s where the work began, not where it ended. Every generation has had to choose it again. At Valley Forge, at Gettysburg, on the beaches of Normandy, in the streets of Selma. Americans recommitted themselves to the principles on which our nation was founded.
Now it's our turn.
There's nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it, defend it, and earn it. Over and over, year after year. That's not a burden. That's what it means to be an American.
250 years in, we still haven't fully lived up to those words in the Declaration. But we've never walked away from them, and this July 4, I hope all of us can commit to one thing: that we never will. I don't believe we're as divided as we're told we are. I've bet my whole life on the American people, and I'm not stopping now.
Happy 250th birthday, America. Our story isn't finished. Let's keep writing it together.
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. I know @realDonaldTrump and family did.
250 years ago we declared independence from a king who ran the colonies as a family business. In just 18 months the Trumps have made King George look like an amateur.
A $620 million Pentagon loan, the largest in the program’s history, to a company Don Jr.’s firm bought into three months before.
An Air Force drone contract to a startup the princelings took public through a golf course company they own a piece of.
The Army’s largest drone motor order ever, to a company where Don Jr. sits on the board and holds millions in stock.
A $24 million Pentagon robotics contract to the company that employs Eric as Chief Strategy Advisor.
A stake in the largest undeveloped tungsten deposit on earth, in Kazakhstan, backed by $1.6 billion in US government support.
Jared’s fund seeded with $2 billion from the Saudi crown prince, now $6.2 billion, 99% of it foreign money from Gulf governments. Over $110 million in fees collected from the Saudis alone. He negotiates American foreign policy with the governments that pay him.
$2.3 billion from crypto ventures their father regulates. More than a million people bought in and lost $2.3 billion. The money didn’t grow. It simply moved from the subjects pockets to the crown’s coffers.
And the next one is already drafted. A proposed ATF rule that will allow guns to be shipped straight to your front door. The government’s own estimate is 3.3 million home gun deliveries a year. Don Jr. sits on the board of the online gun megastore built to cash in. He holds 300,000 shares.
And that’s only the fraction they’ve allowed us to see. Not one subpoena served. Not one search executed. Why hide anything when you own the investigators?
Me? They searched a laptop for six years. Federal prosecutors. Grand juries. Subpoena power. Congressional hearings. They found nothing. I made about $200k a year selling paintings when my Dad was President, and they made my paintings part of an impeachment inquiry.
For six years they’ve asked Where’s Hunter? What about the laptop?
Wrong questions. The right one is 250 years old. Does America belong to a family?
They’ve given their answer. Long live the King.
In recovery we learn the whole point is service.
Showing up for somebody besides yourself.
That’s leadership too.
Setting the tone.
Right now the tone is vengeance and yeah, I get the anger.
But anger isn’t leadership. It’s tyranny.
We can and should reach for each other. Demand better.
.@JamesTalarico: The reason poverty exists in the wealthiest country on Earth is not because we can't feed the poor. It's because we can't satisfy the rich.
Elon Musk is about to become the first trillionaire. He's about to make more money than every elementary school teacher in America combined. Do we really believe one man is worth more than every elementary school teacher?
Why do we have a trillionaire when there are kids without enough to eat, cancer patients going bankrupt, and veterans sleeping on the street?
I'm all for success, but this is not success. This is hoarding. What leads a person to accumulate more money than they could possibly spend in 100 lifetimes when there are people starving in this one?
What we can do is tax trillionaires out of existence and use that money to guarantee food, healthcare, and housing for every single American.
Suck it up, kids,
just something I gotta unload before it rusts the circuits in my head.
Grew up blasting Kid Rock into Metallica, Beatles crashing Led Zeppelin, Claude Debussy whispering through Garth Brooks and the Rolling Stones, Queen owning Pink Floyd's shadows, AC/DC ripping into Nirvana, Luciano Pavarotti belting over the Doors, Guns N' Roses shredding U2, Madonna owning Prince who danced with Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, Bon Jovi fist-pumping Cyndi Lauper and Duran Duran, and yeah, even sneaking New Kids on the Block when I swore the house was empty (don't judge, I was barely an adult and my heart was a goddamn mess of confusion). Point is, my music taste? It's a wild collage, no apologies, what hits me hits HARD and if it don't move you that's fine, build your own playlist, we're all tinkering with the same busted radio.
So picture this: I fire up the Super Bowl halftime and Bad Bunny drops what might be the most American show I've ever witnessed, cane fields swaying on a California gridiron while some hateful old orange troll across the map tweets "disgusting" like he owns the damn field. It fuckin wrecked me,
He sang EVERY word in Spanish. He wasn't the only artist but every word of his Every. Single. Word. was in spanish. Not code-switching for the crowd, no, every. single. word. pure mama's tongue, dancing through that sugarcane like Puerto Rico's spirit animal rooted right there under the lights.
Lady Gaga salsa spins in, Ricky Martin ignites the dark, and holy shit,
a couple gets FUCKING MARRIED on the fifty-yard line!
vows flying higher than the pyrotechnics.
Then Bad Bunny, truck driver's son from Vega Baja, schoolteacher's boy, plants himself before the world and belts "God bless America," but here's the thunder: he rolls the names, Chile Argentina Uruguay Paraguay Bolivia Peru Ecuador Brazil Colombia Venezuela Panama Costa Rica Nicaragua Honduras El Salvador Guatemala Mexico Cuba Dominican Republic Jamaica United States Canada, landing on
"Mi patria, Puerto Rico. Seguimos aquí."
My homeland, Puerto Rico. We are still here.
After the storms, the neglect, the decade of getting kicked while down, that wasn't just survival, that was a spike into the turf screaming resilience louder than any hurricane.
Flags flood the field next, every hemisphere banner carried by dancers under a jumbotron blazing
THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE.
Damn.
This is the America I believe in, the country I love, teh country I served with sweat and scars, messy beautiful multilingual multicolored courageous beast forever grinding toward better. Built by callused hands babbling every language, praying every prayer, hauling from every corner of this shared dirt. That's the only version I want my grandkids inheriting, no velvet ropes, no "real" Americans gatekeeping the dream.
And while the globe glued eyes to that stage, this Puerto Rican kid, now Earth's most-streamed voice, sings mama's Spanish, blesses the Americas stem to stern, spikes a football etched "Together, we are America" and shrinks hate to the pathetic speck it is.
Speaking of specks, remeber our so-called president, that angry orange dude? Calls it "absolutely terrible," whines "nobody understands a word," dubs it "a slap in the face to our country."
Fuckign moron.
Leader of the free world?
Nah, just a bad man blinded by his own bile, seeing foreign threat in salsa steps and shared flags, disgusting only to the diseased heart.
That's not strength, not patriotism, just poison we'd be proud to purge.
America ain't got velvet ropes, belongs to us all reguardless skin or saints we whisper to, especially if your anthem's in Spanish, yeah... especially.
Hate's the unasked inheritance, passed down like a cursed soldering gun, but Bad Bunny? No slogans chanted, no fingers jabbed, no "ICE out" banners. He didn't need the slogans. He skipped the whole damn political chant playbook, didn't point fingers, didn't scream into a microphone already slick with hypocrisy. He just did the thing. He stood in the glare and showed us, in real time, what America could look like if we ever stopped being so goddamn afraid of each other.
Think about it. No lecture. Just a stage where culture got shared, not policed. Where Spanish wasn't a threat but the rhythm section of the heart. Where a whole parade of flags, every color from this messed-up hemisphere, could walk across a football field together, and the only doctrine needed was the one he hummed into the mic. He gave us the words, sure, but more than that, he built the space where they could actually mean something. He didn't sell a protest; he built a proof-of-concept. And sometimes, my friends, a working prototype is the most dangerous sermon of all.
The only thing more powerful than hate is love.
Over 100 million souls witnessed it live,
no Truth Social tantrum erases that echo.
Oh, and that Grammy bit folks griped about, handing a prop to little Lincoln Fox, age 5? Symbolic as hell, older Bad Bunny passing torch to the wide-eyed kid version of himself, legacy in a stare that says you're the whole damn universe. Theater. Art. Truth heavier than gold. Don't need the real trophy to feel the weight crash home.
So keep the emotion raw, keep the fire roaring, keep the music cranked, keep the beautiful mess, that's soul's workshop. If you blank on who you are, cue "Like a Prayer" at 3 a.m., let that sax solo wreck you with tears.
That's you, kids. That's the voice thundering through the chaos.
Now go build something beautiful, or hell, just make some righteous noise.
Either way, I'm cheering loud.

(Yeah I said it!)
@mywellnessnerd@dr_ericberg I use a TENS unit on normal mode, 10 Hz, 300 Microseconds for 7 minutes. 10 minutes will make me sleepy for the whole following day; it’s that powerful. Research the impact of tVNS on your parasympathetic nervous system and you will understand…
In moments like this, I like to turn to a man who can articulate events in a way that only he can.
The words of Robert L Arnold on Violence and Speech and the death of Charlie Kirk.
