A BIG Thanks to @ProjectLyme and @JennaBushHager for supporting @MomsAgainstLyme and highlighting last night the tragedy of congenital and childhood Lyme. It's about time the @NIH@CDC began to focus on us! Children are our future. We must protect them! #childhoodLyme
Melissa Bell has it right: Project Lyme's benefit focused attention directly on children with Lyme, be it congenital or tick-borne. @JennaBushHager did her homework and hosted beautifully, and @IsabelRose demonstrated in many ways the devastation of a childhood with Lyme.
@janemarke@ProjectLyme@JennaBushHager At mother's meetups we hear mothers who have passed Lyme to their children in utero, and their struggles are painful to hear: both those of the children and their mothers. We need research on treatment! Now!
@ProjectLyme While the article references Yersinia, this is what kills people with cystic fibrosis--simple organisms not reached by antibiotics---and is responsible for persistent and recurrent illness in Lyme. We generally call them biofilms.
@LymeChallenge@ProjectLyme@JennaBushHager@cdc It's about time CDC acknowledged what has been known since 1985! Let's get funded for research on the best choices to prevent mother-fetus transmission, and early detection and treatment of infants!
This is very important. The conventional wisdom, which was never particularly wise, is that it takes 36 hours for a tick to be able to transmit Lyme to a human. Disproven!
Most (over 90%) of #LymeDisease cases are associated with the bite of the nymphal stage of the blacklegged tick (the size of a pinhead.)
This study fund nymphal #ticks can transmit Lyme within 12 hours. #BeTickAware https://t.co/MeXpzgQIGr
In this TICKTECTIVE podcast, Dr. Charlotte Mao reviews #LymeDisease testing, Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric symptoms (#PANS) triggered by Bartonella, and how #mold toxins can complicate things.
