❤️😍💞 Wisdom, the world’s oldest known wild bird, returned to her nest on Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week to care for her new chick!

At an age of at least 74, the queen of seabirds is estimated to have produced 50-60 eggs and as many as 30 chicks that fledged.⤵️

The Golden Arrow, designed by Captain John R. Gordon Bennett and built in 1929 by Thomson & Taylor, was revolutionary with its arrow-shaped body to cut through air resistance. Powered by a 925 horsepower aircraft engine, it aimed to break the land speed record.

On March 11, 1929, Henry Segrave drove it to an unprecedented 231.45 mph at Daytona Beach, setting a record that lasted nearly 30 years. This feat highlighted the era's engineering spirit and human ambition.

The success of the Golden Arrow was a landmark in automotive history, but tragedy struck when Segrave died the next year in a water speed record attempt. The car, now retired, stands as a testament to speed and innovation.

Look who we caught today! It’s a hatch year Eastern Towhee (born this year). A female would be brown and a male would be black, and this bird has female characteristics on one side and male on the other— a likely bilateral gynandromorph!!!

A European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) wing. Although common in this area, I rarely get a chance to inspect their beautiful feathers at close range. Thanks to a hungry sparrowhawk there was nothing much left of this individual apart from its wings.
