@BronaghTumulty I love the comments which has been filed. Thank you for the kind words! Have always loved my meteorological work—always will! But am grateful to be able to more quietly observe Chicago’s always fascinating weather at age 72!!
@BronaghTumulty Squall lines like this evening’s push domes of lake water over to Michigan. These domes can be reflected back to the Chicago/Illinois shoreline resulting in water level variations. These can vary from a foot to as much as 6/8 ft on occasions. They arrive an hour after the storm
@BronaghTumulty Will be interested to see if, beyond straight line wind and potential tornado damage, the squall line results in seiches ( or what are often referred to as “ meteotsunamis”—rapid lake level fluctuations which are frequently set up as squall lines race out over the lake
@BronaghTumulty Have monitored the fast moving squall line remotely on radar. Analyses from the NWS Storm Prediction Center indicate an “explosive” atmosphere in the wake of the day’s heat and humidity. 75 mph gusts at O’Hare. Lots of wind damage. Demetrius and the crew were hopping this eve!
@MikeNelson247@DenverChannel@ametsoc Congratulations, Mike!! What a career you've had. Going through this now myself. You approach this decision slowly, thoughtfully and with care. You have had an amazing career! Now on to new adventures, right??
I’ve stood on the actual roof of the Sears Tower, been sprayed with champagne after a Cubs playoff series win on the field at Wrigley, ran the Chicago Marathon, eaten more pizza than I can name…but if I could shoot Malort with Tom Skilling at Nisei, that would be epic.
