Yesterday, July 17, 2026, Mullins THREATENED State funding if States did not comply with HIS "mandatory" requirements.

I QUOTE: "Working with [Commerce] Secretary [Howard] Lutnick, we are going to make our security enhancements mandatory. Meaning that if these states want a grant, and they want to be reimbursed to run federal elections, they are going to have to implement security issues...."

"The machines have to be secured and your voter registration list needs to be scrubbed."

Mullins further threatened States that didn't comply with federal investigations, and went as far as to threaten "election officials" with possible prison time.

I QUOTE: "We will scrub all election records, looking for illegal aliens and those who are ineligible to vote..."

NOTICE — He said "WE." So, @SecMullinDHS is not only threatening to investigate States that don't comply with HIS "mandatory" requirements, but he's threatening to forcefully take over States voter rolls too.

The One Big Beautiful Bill front-loads many of its most popular tax benefits before the 2026 midterms.

But many of its most painful consequences don't arrive until afterward.

Medicaid work requirements.
Student loan changes.
Energy credit rollbacks.
Long-term SNAP changes.

Whether you support the bill or oppose it, the timeline raises an obvious question:

If these provisions are politically popular... why weren't more of them scheduled to take effect before voters returned to the polls?

Sometimes the most important part of a law isn't what's written in it.

It's the calendar.
