H.E. Ambassador Moussa Meigague, IGAD Director of Health and Social Development, received a courtesy call from Mr. Alexandre Coissac, the new IOM Chief of Mission in Djibouti, and Dr. Abdi Hersi, Senior Policy and Liaison Officer at the IOM Regional Office for East and Horn of Africa and Southern Africa.

The discussions focused on migration governance and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between IGAD and IOM in promoting safe, orderly and regular migration across the region.

🌾 Turning Commitments into Action

Opening the Agrifood Systems Learning Event on behalf of the #IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. @DrWorkneh, our Director, Mr. Omar Djama, called for stronger political leadership and regional collaboration to translate agrifood systems commitments into action.

“Commitments alone will not transform our food systems. We need investment, strong institutions, regional integration and political leadership.”

He highlighted the complementary roles of the IGAD Committee of Ambassadors and the IGAD Parliamentary Forum on Agrifood Systems in advancing legislation, national priorities, investment, oversight and regional cooperation.

🌍 He further stressed that no Member State can transform its agrifood system in isolation, underscoring regional collaboration as a necessity for building resilient, inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems.

Today, RBC welcomed an #IGAD delegation led by Amb. Moussa Meigague for discussions on strengthening health emergency preparedness, primary health care and regional health security.

The discussions explored opportunities to build on the strong collaboration under the #HealthEmergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience (HEPRR) Program, while advancing shared priorities in health resilience, local manufacturing, and access to quality health products.

Earlier today, the Director of Health and Social Development, Amb. Moussa @meigague, met with Prof. Dr. @CMuvunyi, Director General of the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (@RBCRwanda), which hosts the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Programme (#HEPRRP) in Rwanda.

The Directors discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between IGAD Health Programmes and #RBC under @RwandaHealth, including IGAD’s technical assistance in implementing #HEPRR Programme activities in Rwanda.

The @IGADSecretariat and @ECSA_HC serve as the regional coordinating organizations for the @WorldBankGroup-funded HEPRR Programme across Eastern and Southern Africa.

Today, @IGADHealthS hosted a courtesy visit from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) @eu_echo delegation at the @IGADsecretariat Headquarters.

On behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb. Moussa A. Meigague (@meigague), Director of @IGADHealthS, met with Mr. Olivier Brouant, Regional Rapid Response Coordinator for Disaster Preparedness, and Mr. Clément Cazaubon, ECHO Technical Advisor, in the presence of Dr. Osman Bilal, IGAD Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator, alongside coordinators from other IGAD programmes.

The discussions focused on strengthening regional humanitarian coordination, disaster preparedness, displacement response, and the “One IGAD” approach to addressing complex humanitarian challenges across the Horn of Africa.

📍 #Tog-Wajale Cross Border

📢The launch of the Regional Migration Fund (RMF) project activities in the Tog-Wajale cross-border area has successfully concluded.

The approved initiatives include:
✅Upgrading the livestock market center
✅Constructing a Community Development Center
✅Establishing a new vegetable market

These projects aim to improve livelihoods for migrants, refugees, and host communities while promoting social cohesion and stability along the migration corridor.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. @DrWorkneh, Ambassador Moussa Megague (@meigague) the Director @IGADHealthS reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive cross-border development.

📍Improving the Availability and Quality of Migration and Displacement Statistics in the IGAD Region.

The @IGADsecretariat, Member States and Partners have kicked off the 7th Regional Technical Working Group (TWG) Workshop on Migration and Displacement Data.

The Workshop aims to improve the availability and quality of migration and displacement statistics within the IGAD region by strengthening national and regional actors in the production and use of migration and displacement statistics.

Representing IGAD Executive Secretary @DrWorkneh, Amb. @meigague, Head of @IGADHealthS, urged Member States to not only enhance migration and displacement data but also ensure its effective use in shaping policies that drive stability, resilience, and development across our region.

At the end of the workshop, Member States and Partners will develop a detailed action plan toward the implementation of migration and displacement statistics activities by Member States.
