@NGSS_tweeps Actually have Ts do an NGSS lesson sequence as Ss. I think an immersion experience of what NGSS should look and feel like as a student is a foundation to understanding the shifts that need to happen.

@Leahbbarton@AMTAteachers Just saw this, but I have seen some teachers require their high flyers to only ask questions and cannot give answers. Others have them plant mistakes and incorporate it into a mistake game of sorts so the rest of the class can't just accept that Ss answers.
The work that I have been doing for the last 3 years around the #NGSS has firmly convinced me that, as science teachers, we really need to STOP teaching by frontloading vocabulary. Vocab is a shortcut to describe concepts, not the concept itself. (Is this different for ELL Ss?)
How does representing the same data set in a variety of ways lend itself to making sense of a phenomenon? What sort os discussions does this allow us to have with our students? #modbio#mimodelinginstruction
What happens when two populations of species are competing for the same resources? Does this graph shape hold true for closed or open systems? What are our assumptions if we think it does? Do all species interacting like this exhibit competitive exclusion? #modbio
Once you have a model to decide what's living, what comes next? How can you represent further classifications? What can we classify down to? What makes that last classification so unique? Why does this make my brain hurt!? #mimodbio#modelinginstruction
This is old news to many but important news to all. Learning Styles is not a thing! Students and parents are using is as an excuse to not learn. "I can't learn it that way because I'm a (fill in blank) learner..." is BS. Our job is to teach kids to Learn how to Learn in all ways.
