The State Department for Correctional Services has launched a monthly tree planting campaign.

Speaking while launching the campaign at the Kitengela GK Prison, Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco said the exercise, that will take place every first Thursday of the month, is in line with the national tree growing and landscape restoration campaign as championed by President William Ruto.

She said the State Department remains committed in leading the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Program, with a goal of cultivating 100 million trees annually with over 81,394 seedlings already planted within prison lands, about 40,000 donated to organizations and communities, and over 10,000 sold for further distribution.

During Thursday’s launch, over 3,000 indigenous trees were planted at the Kitengela GK Prison, with the launch happening concurrently across all correctional facilities in the country.

Present during the ceremony was Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh, Probation and Aftercare Secretary Dr. Christine Obondi and other staff from the State Department for Correctional Services.

The Digital Transformation Public Sector (DTPS) Forum and Awards

Today afternoon I presided over the DTPS Awards, where 21 winners in various categories such as finance, health, education, emerging tech, digital communications excellence, CTO of the Year, CEO of the Year, and overall DTPS winner were awarded.

The DTPS Forum and Awards by Greydale Africa in partnership with @MoICTKenya, bring together Principal Secretaries, CEOs and Directors of ICT, among others, to deliberate on how Public Sector can adopt technology to increase efficiency, service delivery and decision making.

The digital transformation of the public sector is a collective endeavor that involves not just government agencies but also partnerships with the private sector, civil society and academic institutions.

I was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Dr Salome Beacco of @CorrectionalKE; Dr Idris Dokota (Cabinet Affairs), Susan Mongeni of @MSMEs_KE and James Muhati of @Planning_Ke. CEOs and Directors of ICT from various public agencies were in attendance.

State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco was on Thursday a guest speaker at the opening of the Digital Transformation Public Sector Forum and Awards 2025.

The second edition of the Forum being held in Mombasa will run until tomorrow and will provide a platform where public sector leaders will discuss, share ideas, learn from each other and find solutions that will support the achievement of a successful economy.

Speaking at the forum, the PS said ministries, State Departments and Agencies can enhance collaboration by aligning their goals and priorities through strategic approaches that foster coherence, coordination, and shared accountability.

Citing the Integrated Correctional Management Information System (ICMIS), under development by her department, the PS said it was demonstration of how digitalization can enhance collaboration with other agencies and improve service delivery.

The System is envisioned as a transformative digital platform that will enhance inter-agency collaboration and streamline criminal justice processes in Kenya.

Speaking as he opened the forum, ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui said digital transformation in the public sector is vital to delivering efficient, accessible and equitable services empowering communities, streamlining governance, and building a resilient future for all.

He said the two-day Forum, which has brought together senior government officials, Chairpersons, CEOs and Heads of ICT in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), seeks to promote government’s digital transformation journey and will provide a platform for government and private sector technology leaders to engage, learn from each other and find solutions that will enhance service delivery.

The awards, which will be presented at the end of the forum, will recognize public sector organizations that have consistently leveraged technology to improve their effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, and service delivery to citizens.

The government has placed digital transformation at the heart of its bottom-up economic transformation development agenda through key initiatives that include digitization.

We have made tremendous strides in the implementation of our manifesto across all sectors. In the last two years, our Ministry has revolutionized service delivery through digitization of government services, improved security and faster processing of identity and travel documents, among others.

To accelerate the full realization of the remaining government agenda, we organized a two-day workshop for senior Ministry officials to take stock of our departments' successes and challenges, and lay down strategies to improve our performance.

Today we concluded a two-day retreat for senior officials of the Interior and National Administration ministry to take stock of the midterm performance towards the realisation of the BETA blueprint.

We deliberated on key priority areas, challenges and solutions to mitigate the same in order to improve service delivery to citizens.

As we approach the midpoint of the administration in the process of realising our social contract with Kenyans, we have agreed on various deliverables and set targets for improved performance.

We have made major strides in the attainment of BETA priorities through the concerted efforts of our staff in the last two years.

In compliance with HE President William Samoei Ruto ’s directive to digitise government services, I am proud to announce that we have so far onboarded over 20,000 services on the E-Citizen platform, with one paybill, leading to an increase in revenue collection.

Other major strides is the fast tracking of processing and issuance of identification and travel documents as well as certificates of good conduct.

The ministry has also developed guidelines on the vetting of applicants for IDs. This brings to an end the over 60-year discrimination Kenyans from Northern Kenya and other border counties have been subjected to. This has been done without compromising the integrity of our national security and sovereignty.

The meeting brought together top officials from the three state departments within the ministry to commit to a secure country, a key enabler in spuring economic growth and development, and ensuring efficiency in the delivery of other services.
