@andreamacdcpa I do best with paper books. Keep a pen in hand and underline or bracket things I want to remember. Then at the end of each chapter or session, I go back and read what I marked. At the end of the book, I read those marks again. Those are the keys to focus and retention for me. ๐๐ผ
@AbbyNormalPNW @DogginTrump Probably just proximity to airport since they have police helicopters all over campus, in the direct flight path of commercial airlines.
@BlakeTOliver@LoganGrafTax@EarmarkCPE Two good dudes! Great to see you both this week, and Iโll definitely be looking forward to this podcast! ๐๐ผ
@JStaatsCPA Hello, fellow Oregonian! Gotta come to Vegas to run into you apparently. ๐ Hoping to track you down at some point, but first I will have to leave this amazing Terrace and my spot in the sun โ๏ธ Do you valley people know what the sun is? You should come see itโฆfeels amazing. ๐
@seattle_tax Just had this discussion with a Meta employee over beers on Saturday! We have Apple and Meta data centers in our tiny town, so tons of our clients have RSUs with them. Going to be interesting for sure! ๐ฌ Thanks for the reminder, we should probably reach out to them all. ๐๐ผ
Ohhhhhhโฆ #TaxTwitter isnโt going to like this one. ๐ Kind of kidding, but I do wonder about the amount of time we are wasting looking for a unicorn in a field of damn good horses.
The person who focuses on one task and sees it through to completionโeven if they work in a somewhat slow or outdated mannerโbeats the endless optimizer who jumps from tool to tool and always hopes a new piece of technology will help them finish what they start.
@JStaatsCPA I feel this in my bones every time I switch to the clientโs view of QBO. ๐คข What is that hot garbage, and why can we not just teach people to think a little bit like accountants when they are DOING their own accounting? ๐ซ
@JGTaxPro Good for you, Toni! I started my CPA journey last fall - halfway done now ๐ Iโm 38, working PT, kids are 9 & 6. Look into Superfast CPA. It teaches you a system for 2 hrs in the early morning & small review throughout the day on an app - working beautifully for me. You got this!
@NayoCarterGray Answer new client inquiries from all channels (email, website, phone calls), screen them to see if they are a good fit for our practice, and either decline the engagement or direct them to schedule a paid initial consultation through our website. Lots of wasted time here for us!
When Iโm checking who fucked up the accumulated depreciation JE last year and the QBO audit log says I made the entry and it was not edited since

@MireCpa@patrickdichter @JStaatsCPA Hey Marcus! ๐๐ผ Weโre 5 months in with Canopy and glad to hear youโre with us on the implementation journey. I hope youโll share the best tips / tricks you learn along the way. Loving the podcast, too - keep it up, sir! ๐๐ผ
Things heard in the office on 4/14:
โGo ahead and paper file, just leave me the heck out of it.โ ๐
โPeople need to take responsibilities for themselves!โ ๐คฃ
โDid she literally not look at one single paystub all year?!โ ๐ญ ๐
Nothing left to do but laugh, folks.

@seattle_tax @JStaatsCPA Same! Iโm thinking about how valuable a โclosed officeโ Friday would beโฆno client interruptions, just deep work & reviewing the docs that came in that week for completeness. I hate the feeling when the file sat there for 2 weeks before you realized it wasnโt close to complete ๐
