@_Isabella_Cruz_ Learning about windows & mirrors was one of my favorite things while in college! I think it’s super important to reflect on the kinds of books we give kiddos access to, and how we can give them experiences through literature that open their eyes to different things!

A3. The Zookeeper Activity has students embody an animal (brings art into class) & research it. The next day, you will bring in hay for all the "animals" to eat. The goal is to have students wonder if this is fair and will spark a dialogue on equity. #TCHEdBirds #TCH258F20

@_Tarah_L @dr_s_bertrand That’s a great idea. I see this being used in my classroom as a community meeting where we address what’s working for us & what isn’t. We can learn just as much from our students as they can learn from us!

@anna_tonarelli @dr_s_bertrand Couldn’t agree more! I love that you mention materials because students are aware of the little details too. When our curriculum, textbooks, literature, or even posters fail to represent all types of students, kids take note of that.

A2. During election season, I sought out great read alouds. The book Facts vs. Opinions vs. Robots helps to teach the critical difference between fact/opinion, while The President of the Jungle would be a fun way to teach students how an election works. #TCHEdBirds #TCH258F20

@JSpitalli This made me think of that moment in class when @dr_s_bertrand told us that "safe spaces/classrooms" aren't what they say they are unless we really do make them as safe, inviting, consciously aware, etc. as they should be. Great point Jessica!
