The Top 10 things I've learned in 40 years of ministry*

1. Prayer, not strategy, needs to be the top priority.
2. Build your ministry on the Word of God, not fads.
3. Don't let your family be the victim of your busyness.
4. Build a great team, do great things, learn from failure.
5. If you want to lead a revolution, be the revolution.
6. Live in a relentless reliance on the Holy Spirit.
7. Keep the Gospel clear (help others to do the same!)
8. Take care of your physical, mental and spiritual health
9. Have close friends who ask hard questions.
10. Make it your goal to finish well (2 Timothy 4:8.)

*If you count the 3 years I was a part time youth leader, I've been in ministry for 40 years. 😀

This means I was created by a creator. That creator must have had a purpose for me.

Everyday this week I’ve gone running. I hate running but discipline begets discipline. I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and say I don’t run away from hard things.

So I’m trying to make it a theme to do hard stuff. Hard stuff leads to character. That’s what I want.

It’s not enough to be a “pastor” in the circles of life that you operate in. Do people recognize that you are a man of God, a place where they can be shown the truth, hope, grace of God? So that If someone was looking for God, they know you would be the one to help.
