#WATCH | Geneva, Switzerland: Dr. Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement, says, "We are presently in Geneva. The purpose of our visit—including the photo exhibition, protests, and other activities—is to show the world that Pakistan has forcibly occupied Balochistan. Following this forced occupation, various forms of human rights violations have been taking place there, and these have escalated significantly in recent years... In the last few years, there has been a sharp intensification of what we call the "kill and dump" policy, where people are abducted and forcibly disappeared on a daily basis, and their bodies are subsequently dumped. Our objective in coming here—and the aim of the photo exhibition and protests—is to demonstrate to the world that Balochistan is a land where severe atrocities are being committed."

We are alarmed by the life sentence handed down to prominent Baloch rights activist and Baloch Yakjehti Committee leader Gulzadi Baloch. The use of baseless charges against peaceful activists raises serious concerns about the misuse of laws to silence and criminalise dissent.
Those in power must understand that the criminalisation of peaceful activism will not remain restricted to Balochistan. When the fundamental rights of one community are denied, the rights of others across Pakistan are also put at risk.
I appeal to civil society and the media across Pakistan to stand in solidarity with Baloch rights activists, raise their voices against the blatant misuse of laws, and unite in the struggle to defend our fundamental rights. Your silence today could come at a much greater cost tomorrow for you all.

The martyrdom of Akbar Khan Bugti had a profound and direct impact on the younger generation in the modern #Baloch movement, inspiring many to become actively involved in the struggle. There is perhaps no other example in the modern history of #Balochistan where the martyrdom of a single leader so deeply influenced Baloch youth and drew them into resistance.
Today, we remember Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti as one of the most important and influential leaders of Balochistan and the modern Baloch movement.

Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti: A Leader Who Chose Resistance Over Surrender
“We, the Baloch people, believe that the best way to die is to die fighting. We Baloch are the masters of our own destiny. And if that is taken away from us, then life doesn't really matter.”
— Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti
Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti was one of the great leaders of Balochistan. Despite his background as a tribal leader, he earned a prominent place in Baloch national politics and emerged as one of the few leaders who clearly recognized that resistance had become essential to safeguarding the rights, land, resources, and future of the Baloch nation.
He understood that the development projects imposed by Pakistan in Balochistan were not merely economic initiatives. In his view, they threatened to dispossess the Baloch nation of their land and natural resources and to alter the demographic character of Balochistan, further advancing a process of national destruction. For this reason, he openly and unequivocally opposed the exploitative economic policies and projects pursued under the military rule of General Pervez Musharraf.
Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti also presented a political framework for protecting Baloch ownership over their land and natural resources, commonly known as the Bugti Dossier. His demands were political and centered on the rights, resources, and future of the Baloch nation.
In response to his peaceful political demands, the Pakistani state, under the military dictatorship of Pervez Musharraf, launched military attacks against him. Dera Bugti was placed under siege, and his residence and surrounding areas were subjected to heavy bombardment. He was ultimately forced to leave his home, but rather than abandon his homeland and surrender, Akbar Khan Bugti chose the path of resistance.
He took refuge in the mountains of Tratani, where Pakistan Army launched a major military attack against him. On 26 August 2006, Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti was killed in the attack.
His assassination became a defining moment in the modern history of the Baloch national liberation movement. His sacrifice deeply influenced a new generation of Baloch youth and strengthened the belief that the Baloch struggle for survival, dignity, and freedom could not be separated from resistance.
Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti will always be remembered as a courageous and historic leader of the Baloch national movement—a man who refused to surrender and chose resistance over submission.
On his martyrdom anniversary, the Baloch National Movement (BNM) pays its deepest tribute to Shaheed Akbar Khan Bugti and honors his sacrifice for the #Baloch nation and #Balochistan.

The continued abduction and enforced disappearance of Baloch women has reached an alarming and intolerable level. Habiba, Mahjabeen, Nasreena, Humaira, Najma and now 20-year-old Safia Baloch, their names represent a growing reality of Baloch women being forcibly disappeared. Safia Baloch was forcibly disappeared from Quetta in the early hours of 23 August 2026, adding yet another woman to this grave pattern. We cannot bear another abduction and we will not allow the enforced disappearance of Baloch women to be normalized.
The targeting of Baloch women reflects the colonial logic of domination through which imperial powers have historically used militarization, arbitrary detention, surveillance, collective punishment and intimidation to subjugate colonized peoples. Disappearing women from their homes is a deliberate attempt to penetrate the social fabric, spread fear among families and weaken the collective will of a nation. Enforced disappearance places people beyond the protection of the law while leaving their families trapped in uncertainty. It is not simply violence against individuals, it is a weapon of political control and colonial repression.
Safia Baloch must not become another name that society is forced to accept and forget. Her disappearance demands an answer not silence. Her whereabouts must be immediately disclosed, her safety ensured and she must be released unless she is presented before an independent court through due process. The world must reject the normalization of enforced disappearance in Balochistan. We will not normalize abduction. We will not accept colonial repression as our reality. And we will continue to demand the return of every Baloch woman who has been forcibly disappeared.

Paank Documents 556 Enforced Disappearances and 227 Extrajudicial & Custodial Killings in #Balochistan During First Half of 2026
Paank strongly condemns the continued and systematic pattern of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, custodial executions, and collective punishment across Balochistan during the first six months of 2026.
According to Paank’s documentation, between January and June 2026, at least 556 people were forcibly disappeared, while 227 people were subjected to extrajudicial or custodial killings. A further 171 individuals were released or recovered during the same period. This amounts to an average of approximately 93 enforced disappearances and 38 killings every month.
The monthly figures demonstrate the persistent nature of these abuses. Enforced disappearances reached 109 cases in February and April, while killings rose sharply to 52 in May and 59 in June. These figures reflect not isolated incidents, but a continuing pattern of state repression affecting communities throughout Balochistan.
Paank’s documentation indicates that the Frontier Corps (FC) was implicated in more than half of the recorded disappearances, while other operations allegedly involved military intelligence agencies, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and state-backed armed groups. Victims were reportedly taken during late-night raids on homes, at checkpoints, from workplaces and educational institutions, and from public spaces.
Those targeted included students, teachers, labourers, tailors, fuel transporters, women, and children. The targeting of civilians, including minors, demonstrates the increasingly broad scope of this repression.
Paank is particularly alarmed by reports of custodial executions and staged encounters, in which individuals allegedly held in secret detention are later presented as militants killed in armed confrontations. Such practices, if established, constitute grave violations of international human rights law and the right to life.
The broader pattern also includes military operations involving helicopter bombardments, destruction and burning of homes, seizure of livestock, blockades, and prolonged telecommunications shutdowns, imposing collective punishment on entire communities.
Among the incidents documented during this period are the killing of academic Prof. Ghamkhwar Hayat Baloch, the judicial harassment and persecution of civil rights leaders including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, and the daytime shooting of minor Raahi Assa in Hoshab.

H.E. Mr. Espen Barth Eide (@EspenBarthEide) must know, and must speak about the Pakistani aerial bombardment of Soorab, Balochistan, yesterday, in which more than two dozen Baloch civilians, including children and elderly people, were killed.
That this happened just one day before the Norwegian Foreign Minister’s visit to Pakistan should matter deeply to Norway and to every democratic government.
Pakistan cannot be allowed to present itself as a normal partner while its forces are bombing civilian populations in Balochistan.
This is not a new phenomenon. For seven decades, the Baloch people have endured killings, enforced disappearances, displacement and other grave abuses.
Minister Espen Barthe Eide should raise the issue of Baloch civilian lives directly with Pakistan’s authorities. Silence is impunity to criminals.

BNM Spokesperson: Pakistan Air Force Bombing in Gidar is a Blatant War Crime
Wednesday, August 12, 2026 | #SurabMassacre
https://t.co/mcVto67N06
#SurabMassacre#BNMSpokesperson
The spokesperson for the Baloch National Movement (BNM) has characterized the Pakistan Air Force's bombardment of the Gidar area in Balochistan’s Surab district as a blatant war crime. Airstrikes targeting residential areas have killed more than 20 civilians, including children under ten years old, raising grave concerns over human rights and civilian safety across Balochistan.
The spokesperson emphasized that bombing civilian populations and taking innocent young lives constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. The Pakistan Army is not acting alone in these acts—which include indiscriminate force against civilians, home demolitions, and forced displacement—as local politicians and political parties facilitating these crimes are equally complicit.
The BNM urged the European Union and international bodies to take swift, effective action rather than remaining silent on this humanitarian crisis. Specifically, the BNM called on the EU to immediately suspend Pakistan's GSP+ status and all associated trade preferences, noting that such privileges are strictly contingent upon compliance with fundamental human rights standards.
Furthermore, the spokesperson urged international media outlets to report factual, impartial news rather than amplifying one-sided propaganda and false narratives from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Immediate international intervention and an independent investigation by global rights organizations are critical. A failure by the international community to respond promptly will not only deepen the humanitarian disaster in Balochistan, but also undermine the credibility of global institutions.
11 August Independence Day of Balochistan
On 11 August 1947, Khanate of Kalat publicly declared its independence, following the end of British Rule. The announcement followed negotiations held on 4 August 1947 involving the Khan of Kalat, Mir Ahmed Yar Khan, Lord Mountbatten, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah concerning Kalat’s constitutional position.
During this brief period, Kalat established institutions including the Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Kas to administer the state and preparations to lead a new sovereign state on Islamic principles continued afterwards.
This day, 11 August is commemorated as Balochistan’s Independence Day, after years of colonialism under British.

Paank Condemns the Enforced Disappearance of Abdul Qudoos Zarakzai and His 17-Year-Old Daughter Aqsa
Paank strongly condemns the enforced disappearance of Abdul Qudoos Zarakzai and his 17-year-old daughter, Aqsa, from Civil Colony in Khuzdar, #Balochistan.
According to information received by Paank, at around 10:00 pm on 5 August 2026, personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and plainclothes officials raided their residential quarter. During the raid, residents were harassed and physically assaulted, while women were subjected to harassment and the house was searched.
Abdul Qudoos Zarakzai and his 17-year-old daughter Aqsa were taken away and moved to an undisclosed location. No reason for their detention was provided, and the family was not informed of any case or legal proceedings against them.
Since their disappearance, the family has received no information about their whereabouts, condition or legal status. The disappearance of a 17-year-old girl is particularly alarming and requires immediate international attention.
Paank urges the United Nations, UN human rights mechanisms, international human rights organisations, the international legal community and civil society to take immediate notice of the case and demand information about the whereabouts of Abdul Qudoos Zarakzai and Aqsa.
Paank calls for Aqsa and Abdul Qudoos to be safely recovered, protected from torture and ill-treatment, and provided immediate access to their family and legal counsel. Paank also calls for an independent investigation into the reported assault and harassment of residents during the raid.
Paank urges the United Nations and the international community to take concrete action to address the continuing pattern of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detention in Balochistan.
