“This has been a day of great meaning and promise. Rwanda appreciates the steps you have taken. We have chosen to look forward, and write a new chapter together, and that choice is already bearing fruit. The ambition is there on both sides. But what matters most is the renewal of trust. Today, France is an important partner for Rwanda, in investment, technology, climate, and many other common priorities. Rwanda looks forward to working with France to deepen our collaboration, and expand the possibilities between our two countries.” President Kagame
Last night in Paris, President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame attended a dinner at Palais de l'Élysée, hosted by President @EmmanuelMacron and First Lady Brigitte Macron, following the inauguration of the memorial commemorating the victims of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.
A few years ago, 🇫🇷 recognised its “overwhelming” share of responsibility in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. That step had seemed almost impossible just a decade prior.
Too often people in our ✋🏿✋🏾✋🏽 parts of the world are denied even the mere possibility of healing, through a refusal to facilitate its most essential steps: there can be no good treatment to any ailment without an accurate diagnosis of what problem occurred, how it occurred, and why it occurred. It’s likely that if suffering is observed but purposefully unacknowledged or diminished, it is because its onlooker considers this suffering justifiable and therefore defendable. A scary thought. But when you have power (whether in relative influence or full military authority), the crimes you defend are crimes you enable. Silence altogether, as some wanted of President Macron, is a coward’s favourite tool of complicity.
President Macron chose otherwise, and offered recognition instead. It was an important pivot, but the machinery dedicated to protecting the genocidal order and rehabilitating genocidal ideology was [and is] very much alive. It fought to prove its existence, across traditional and social media, after the publishing of the Duclert report and Macron’s speech in Kigali, where the French President asked for forgiveness from survivors.
Publicly, and one would suspect behind closed doors as well, there were those who condemned President Macron for this truthful step or worse yet, this humane approach. Some, of banal racism, simply suggested that Africans were unworthy of the decency of a deserved apology. But there is no comfortable middle ground when it comes to dehumanisation and genocide, particularly when the power to prevent catastrophe sits within your grasp. Faced with the persecution of a people, fence-sitting is, in fact, taking a stance. You either oppose the killers and those who prepare the ground for them, or you help clear their path so they can march ahead, machette in hand, abetted.
As President @EmmanuelMacron inaugurates the Quai d’Orsay Memorial to the Genocide against the Tutsi, the hope remains that those who have chosen principle and sincerity regarding their involvement in our past, are succeeded by people with the integrity to adopt the same posture toward the future, because the warning signs did NOT disappear after July 1994.
There are STILL people in this region being persecuted for reasons disturbingly similar to those that drove the attempted annihilation of every Tutsi in Rwanda in 94. There are STILL political entrepreneurs in the region invested in scapegoating entire populations for problems they did not create, to justify their murder and erasure, to distract populations as to real problems. Lacking the capacity or legitimacy required to inspire genuine allegiance grounded in shared ambition, trust or love, some “leaders” wager instead on manufacturing hatred of others into partisan loyalty - a common purpose to rally frustrated populations behind them.
The political toolkit is the same across the world. There are still those working to make exclusion, persecution, and violence more palatable to the public by wrapping hatred in the language of security, patriotism, or justice for one’s “stolen wealth”.
And so there is still responsibility to be taken. The responsibility to recognise the signs and refuse their trajectory BEFORE the graves have to be dug and the memorials have to be built….The responsibility to ensure that future generations are not left inaugurating monuments to tragedies that today’s leaders had every opportunity to prevent.
Despite the silver linings, there’s a soft ache here. I think we want to go to France for the gorgeous terrasses, cheese, croissants, and much more. Not in mourning of innocent people whose loss the country had “overwhelming responsibility” in facilitating.
This is a step. But it’s just a step. There’s a long way ahead with many, manyyy more.
For years, H.E. the First Lady #JeannetteKagame, through @UnityClubRw has played a vital role in strengthening the spirit of unity, resilience, patriotism, and responsible leadership among Rwandans.
By bringing together current and former leaders around a shared national vision, Unity Club has continued to promote social cohesion, dignity, solidarity, and the values that define Rwanda’s identity and progress. Through various community initiatives, support to vulnerable families, youth engagement, and programs that encourage citizens to put the nation first, the organization has become an important pillar in nurturing a united and resilient society.
The First Lady’s dedication to the well-being of Rwandans, especially through initiatives focused on families, education, health, and community empowerment, reflects a leadership rooted in compassion, responsibility, and service to the nation. Her contribution continues to inspire many, particularly young people, to embrace the culture of resilience, hard work, and patriotism that drives Rwanda forward.
Unity Club remains a strong symbol of togetherness and a reminder that Rwanda’s strength lies in unity, shared purpose, and collective responsibility.

EU SIDELINES BELGIUM’S ANTI-RWANDA AGENDA WHILE WASHINGTON QUIETLY REVERSES COURSE ON SANCTIONING RWANDA DEFENSE FORCE
Belgium’s latest push inside the EU to block financial support linked to Rwanda’s Mozambique deployment has quietly collapsed. Instead of cutting support, EU is redesigning the mechanism, with funding now expected to pass through Mozambique or EU energy companies invested in Cabo Delgado, potentially covering a larger share of RDF security costs. In effect, the EU is not stopping the support as per Belgium request — but increasing it instead.
At the same time, TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil reportedly pushed Washington to shield RDF operations in Mozambique from recent U.S. sanctions, warning that billions in LNG investments and regional stability were at stake. Kigali increasingly appears able to leverage the gap between Western political narratives and strategic realities on the ground. #FactsOnRwanda
The transformation of Rwanda under President #PaulKagame is one of the most remarkable leadership stories of our time.
A country once devastated by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is now known for security, cleanliness, innovation, women empowerment, infrastructure, and ambitious youth. Kigali has become a symbol of resilience and progress in Africa.
People can debate politics, but the visible transformation of Rwanda over the past decades speaks for itself.

Nigeria and Rwanda are up to something big!
Yesterday evening in Kigali, diplomacy wore a more human face.
Away from the formal conference halls of the Africa CEO Forum, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, hosted Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, to a dinner that blended serious conversation with warmth, culture and easy camaraderie.
According to Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Nigeria, while advancing broader continental objectives.
Minister Nduhungirehe also conveyed Rwanda’s appreciation for Nigeria’s recent decision to grant visa-free entry to Rwandan nationals, a move widely seen as reciprocating Rwanda’s long-standing visa-free policy for Nigerians.
For many observers, the significance went beyond travel policy. It reflected a growing recognition among African leaders that continental integration cannot succeed while Africans remain separated by barriers at their own borders.
But beyond the official discussions, it was the atmosphere of the evening that stood out.
Eyewitnesses described a relaxed and genuinely cordial setting, with laughter flowing easily between both ministers and their entourages. An eyewitness told me “The body language said everything. There was genuine warmth. Nothing felt forced or overly formal. You could see people enjoying the conversations and connecting naturally.”
One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Minister Nduhungirehe presented Ambassador Ojukwu with Akabanga, Rwanda’s iconic chilli oil famous for its fiery kick and unmistakably Rwandan identity.
The gesture drew smiles across the room and perfectly captured the tone of the evening: authentic, thoughtful and proudly African.
In many ways, the exchange reflected a changing style of diplomacy on the continent, less rigid, more personal and increasingly driven by action.
Both ministers appeared aligned not only in vision, but also in urgency, moving swiftly to advance the priorities set by their respective Presidents. The two ministers have shown us that when leaders are clear about the destination, their diplomats move with purpose.
And perhaps that was the real story from Kigali last night.
Not just two ministers meeting over dinner, but two countries demonstrating a modern African posture built on trust, cultural appreciation, efficiency and shared ambition.
Around the dinner table, diplomacy did not feel distant or ceremonial. It felt familiar, confident and unmistakably African.
Naija bradas, we are comingooo! 👋🙌🏿
How Kinshasa and HRW framing turns AFC/M23 withdrawals into blame cycles
▶️In eastern DRC, a troubling pattern has become increasingly difficult to ignore. AFC/M23 rebels withdraw from captured territory in what are presented as gestures of goodwill, de-escalation, or steps toward peace, only for the Congolese army and its allied militias to move in and carry out reprisals against local Tutsi communities, particularly the Banyamulenge, as well as civilians accused of supporting the rebels.
▶️Kinshasa and its echo chambers later blame the resulting bloodshed on the very forces that had already pulled out.
▶️A May 14 report by Human Rights Watch on Uvira is the latest example of this troubling script. HRW accuses AFC/M23 of killings, rape, abductions, and summary executions during its control of Uvira between December 2025 and January 2026. However, the report sits uneasily alongside HRW’s own earlier warning in January, when the organization acknowledged that AFC/M23’s sudden withdrawal from Uvira on January 17 had left civilians at grave risk from abusive Wazalendo militias and FARDC forces.
▶️That contradiction cannot simply be brushed aside.
When AFC/M23 left Uvira, fears immediately mounted that Wazalendo fighters and FARDC elements would retaliate against Banyamulenge civilians.
▶️Those fears were not abstract. Looting, intimidation, destruction of property, and targeted violence followed the withdrawal. Homes, businesses, religious sites, and public infrastructure were attacked. The very communities that had hoped the withdrawal would ease tensions instead found themselves exposed.
▶️HRW’s senior Great Lakes researcher Clémentine de Montjoye warned at the time that the sudden departure placed civilians at “grave risk” from abusive militias and government forces. She cautioned that the mere presence of Congolese troops would not necessarily protect civilians if those forces continued to tolerate, collaborate with, or empower abusive armed groups.
▶️That warning proved painfully accurate. Within days, reports emerged of abductions, torture, looting, and systematic destruction. More than 300 Congolese Tutsi families, mostly Banyamulenge, totaling over 1,000 men, women, and children, fled Uvira, citing targeted violence by the FARDC-led coalition.

"We need to give ourselves value of some kind. We can't just be people who are waiting to be ripped off by someone who is shrewd enough and have power. No, we must be able to say no."
~ H.E. President #PaulKagame
President Paul Kagame arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, to join fellow Heads of State and Government at the Africa Forward Summit, bringing together France and African nations from May 11–12, 2026.
President Kagame received a warm welcome from President William Ruto, reflecting the strong ties and growing cooperation between Rwanda and Kenya.
Thank you to my sister President @SuluhuSamia for the warm welcome to Tanzania and for the productive discussions.
Rwanda and Tanzania are not only neighbors but brotherly countries bound by history and a shared goal of prosperity for our people. Rwanda remains committed to building on this strong foundation by deepening our bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, infrastructure, logistics, energy, and regional integration.
I look forward to continuing our collaboration to achieve tangible results for our citizens and advance the East African Community.
Maj Gen Eugene Nkubito blasts genocide deniers and revisionists.
"The 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was prepared and executed by despot Juvenal Habyarimana's regime which later handed over to "Abatabazi" Government."
Genocidal tyrant Habyarimana denied millions of Rwandan refugees their constitutional right to return home claiming Rwanda was too small to accommodate them, suggesting they should be sent to other countries.
In 1980s, Habyarimana uttered that "Rwanda is like a glass full of water" as a justification for refusing to allow Tutsi refugees to return to the country.

From DRC to Uganda: FDLR’s expanding terror and Kinshasa’s role
🔴The Great Lakes region’s most persistent source of insecurity remains FDLR, a Kinshasa-backed genocidal militia formed by remnants of the perpetrators of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
🔴For more than three decades, the genocidal militia has operated in eastern DRC, surviving through shifting alliances, illicit local economies, and political expediency. Successive UN Group of Experts reports have documented the group’s involvement in mass killings, rape, child recruitment, and cross-border destabilization.
🔴For Rwanda, the FDLR threat is existential. This is not merely a matter of border insecurity. It concerns a militia rooted in genocide ideology, openly hostile to Rwanda, and still positioned across its frontier with the support and cooperation of the Congolese army (FARDC).
🔴This is how terrorism regionalizes: first tolerated in one country, then exported to another.
🔴The latest alarm from southwestern Uganda’s Kisoro District exposes a reality Kinshasa has long sought to downplay: the FDLR is not a “Rwandan pretext,” but a regional security threat.

Rwanda’s journey from the devastation of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi to a nation defined by stability and security is one of the most profound transformations of our time. What exists today is not accidental, it is the result of deliberate choices, strong institutions, and a clear national vision.
Under the leadership of President #PaulKagame, security was never treated as a temporary fix, but as a permanent foundation for national survival and progress. Discipline, accountability, and unity were placed at the core of the system, ensuring that “never again” is not just a phrase, but a lived reality.
This is more than governance, it is a doctrine shaped by history, built on resilience, and sustained by a shared commitment between leadership and citizens. Rwanda stands today as proof that even after the darkest chapter, a nation can rebuild itself into a model of order, dignity, and unwavering stability.
Everything works perfectly when the politics are right!
Here, the figures do not lie; they perfectly match the reality we see on the ground.
It should be acknowledged that this steady progress has been made possible by the selfless leadership of President #Kagame.
That’s why we love our President! https://t.co/jpIrzL07F1

It is both shocking and disgraceful to witness a convicted genocide denier like Charles Onana continue to receive platforms to spread venomous genocide ideology.
From denying and minimizing the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda to openly whitewashing the crimes of the genocidal militia FDLR, Onana has made a career out of distorting history and defending the indefensible.
On December 9, 2024, a Paris court convicted Charles Onana for denying and minimizing the Genocide Against the Tutsi. This crime claimed the lives of more than one million innocent Tutsi in Rwanda. Rather than reflecting on the gravity of his actions, Onana has chosen to intensify his campaign of misinformation by now acting as an apologist for the FDLR.
During an interview with ORMETA, Onana shamelessly attempted to sanitize the image of the FDLR by claiming that the group has nothing to do with the deaths of “millions of Congolese” and bears no responsibility for the widespread sexual violence in eastern DRC.

Kagame, a Pan-Africanist.
President Kagame's tenure as a reformer of the @_AfricanUnion registered historic milestones one of them being the financial sovereignty.
Under the Rwandan leader's guidance, the #AU successfully transitioned to an operating budget mobilized entirely from within the continent.
Kagame's commitment to "African Solutions to African Problems" has provided the framework for member states to address pressing regional issues with dignity and independence.
A true champion of results-oriented leadership.
