The flow of water in the #ocean is extremely complicated, and small ocean eddies and whirlpools are intermittent and ephemeral, making them extremely difficult to measure. @NASA_SMODE@nasaearth@whoi https://t.co/zc4o5TPN70
If you give a bunch of oceanographers at sea some pumpkins, chances are they’ll carve something nautical. Happy Halloween from the #rvoceanus@NASA_SMODE!
To study the role Earth’s oceans play in climate change, NASA recently launched a mission 100 miles off the San Francisco coast that involves a ship, two airplanes, and a fleet of saildrones. @NASA_SMODE

RV Oceanus is back out to sea after coming in to San Francisco for repairs and shelter from some big waves. Five @saildrone's were out measuring through the storm, and they recorded 11m waves! (Plot: @wavesjam ; photo: @saildrone )
We're back out to sea on the Oceanus after repairs. First item on the to-do list: deploy four wavegliders. These autonomous instruments are packed full of sensors to better understand waves, eddies and jets in the upper ocean and how they interact w/ the atmosphere. @NASA_SMODE

@HRPrendeville @NASA_SMODE We have a bad oil leak in the propulsion system. :(. But the silver lining is that we don’t have to ride out the upcoming storm at sea.

@NASAJPL's Dragana Perkovic-Martin is also the lead engineer on the #DopplerScatt instrument being used to measure ocean currents in the NASA S-MODE field campaign
Shout-out to UMass Amherst alumna Dragana Perkovic-Martin, who led the radar system engineering team as part of the Mars Perseverance landing! Learn more about her work with @NASA 🚀 https://t.co/iR23wG0Op1
An older post about the #DopplerScatt instrument, which is a key part of S-MODE. It is a Doppler scatterometer, measuring the Doppler shift from cm-scale ocean waves to map ocean surface currents over a 25-km swath
NASA scientists are hard at work trying to unlock mysteries of our planet’s ocean surface currents & winds using a new Earth science radar instrument called #DopplerScatt. Measures winds and currents simultaneously. More: https://t.co/Fz19yscFEd #Earth#NASA4Earth#EarthDay2018
A couple more Pacific storm systems will arrive into the West Coast mid to late week with mainly locally heavy rain, especially for the northern half of CA. This map shows the current 7-day rainfall forecast through Tue evening

The RBR Concerto, adapted into the EcoCTD for towed underway profiling, is going to be a key measurement for the campaign, measuring ocean temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, and oxygen across small-scale ocean fronts
Good luck to all on the @nasa_smode cruise over the next couple of weeks on the #RVOceanus!
Special shoutout to our Research Scientist, @oceanmat_ters who shared a few images of mobilization with us
