Teaching Media & Foreign Policy @CPSS_Ug brings me at the intersection of law, media and policy. Media doesn’t just report events. It shapes narratives, public opinion and how countries are perceived.
In the age of AI, who shapes the narrative matters.
Your biggest career advantage might be that you refuse to be just one thing.
For years, we were taught to pick a career, specialize, build expertise and stick with it. But our generation is doing something different.
We are discovering that we can be good at more than one thing. We can have a career and a business, we can be marketers and coaches, engineers and content creators, lawyers and authors, professionals and founders.
We can build communities, speak, teach, create, consult and still have a 9–5 probably. And with how unpredictable the economy has become, having multiple skills and multiple ways of creating value isn't just exciting. For many people, it is necessary, but there is a problem.
The more things you do, the easier it is for people to misunderstand you. They see the different businesses, the different titles, the different projects, the different things you post about, and they wonder: “So, what exactly does this person do?”
I think this is where personal branding becomes powerful. Not because you need to squeeze yourself into one niche. But because you need to give people a reason to connect the dots.
Your personal brand is the thread that connects your different expressions of expertise. I've experienced this myself. Before all this, many people knew me for the marketing, SEO and events PR work I did, and still do through @PluggedInComms@8TechConsults and @OATSConsultancy
supporting organisations through strategic marketing and PR consulting.
Today, many people know me for personal branding, coaching and women empowerment, which has also opened the door to building @AfricanSisters_
Different businesses, different expressions, different seasons, but the person behind them is still me. The thread isn't a job title. It is identity, expertise, values and purpose.
And perhaps that is what we should be building with our personal brands, not a box that tells people exactly what we do forever. But a clear enough understanding of who we are that people can trust our evolution.
Because your business may change, your career may change, your job title may change, you may discover an entirely new gift five years from now, and that's okay. You don't have to choose one thing for the rest of your life.
You just need to become clear enough about who you are that people can understand the many things you bring into the world. Maybe being “many things” isn't a branding problem after all. Maybe it is your advantage.

Who’s been making the executive decisions in your life lately? 💭
Sometimes it’s fear.
Sometimes it’s other people’s expectations.
Sometimes it’s habit.
And sometimes, without even realizing it, we’ve handed over control of our time, our voice and our future.
