Iraq was not an enemy of the US when that Iraqi jet fired two anti-ship missiles at the Stark. In fact, the US was providing a lot of aid to Iraq at the time, and the CIA provided Baghdad with vital, useful intelligence during the Iran-Iraq War, since Iran was a real enemy.

Just like with the Liberty, the Stark attack was unprovoked. Iraq claimed the ship had been thought to be an Iranian tanker; morons like you buy that BS.

Oh, and the Iraqi pilot? He is reported to have received a medal, and later defected to...Iran.
