I will tell you what the BJP's failure was in the last 12 years:
1. Not getting their state governments to implement police reforms at a faster rate.
2. Not making sure we have one world-class urban city in India to date.
3. Not initiating municipal reforms at the speed at which they should have been implemented in the corporations and panchayats they govern.
Now you will get back at me and say, but others are even worse. Yes, the others are dogshit, and that is why you should vote for the BJP. But if the BJP had any sense, then they should focus on these three major issues. It's been 12 years, and simply reminding people how bad the Congress is, or how the UPA was, is not good enough. It is necessary but not sufficient.

बल, दबाव या जबरन नियंत्रण से स्त्रियों को सुरक्षित नहीं रखा जा सकता। विश्वसनीय पुरुष भी उन्हें क़ैद नहीं रख सकते। आत्मानमात्मना यास्तु रक्षेयुस्ताः सुरक्षिताः। मतलब, जो स्त्री अपने विवेक से अपनी रक्षा करती हैं, वही सुरक्षित है। बाहरी निगरानी से ऊपर विवेक को रखा गया है। स्त्रियों को विवेकी माना गया है। इससे अधिक सम्मान देते हैं आप? आपने तो अपनी बहन तक को चुनावी राजनीति में खुद के 2 दशक बाद उतारा।

धन के देखभाल एवं प्रबंधन के लिए मनुस्मृति ने स्त्रियों पर विश्वास जताया है। राजा को मनुस्मृति आदेश देती है कि ऐसी स्त्रियों की रक्षा करे जिनके पति बाहर हैं, जिनका परिवार प्रभावशाली नहीं है, जो बीमार हैं या जिनके पति या पुत्र नहीं हैं। अगर कोई संबंधी भी किसी स्त्री की संपत्ति हड़पता है तो उसे चोर मानकर दंड देने को कहा है। इससे अधिक परवाह है आपको स्त्रियों की?

पति को आदेश है कि बाहर जाने से पहले पत्नी की आजीविका की व्यवस्था करके जाए। अब ये मत कहिएगा कि पत्नी ख़ुद नहीं कर सकती क्या। जीवेच्छिल्पैरगर्हितैः। आगे ये भी लिखा है कि पति न करे तो स्त्री ख़ुद सम्मानजनक कार्यों के जरिए कमाए। आत्मनिर्भरता के लिए इससे बेहतर नियम बना लेंगे आप?

तस्मात्साधारणो धर्मः श्रुतौ पत्न्या सहोदितः। धार्मिक कार्य पति-पत्नी साथ मिलकर करें। पत्नी के बिना कोई अनुष्ठान पूरा नहीं होता है। हमारे यहाँ पत्नी को बेगम नहीं, अर्धांगिनी कहा गया है। यहीं से निकला है 'आधी आबादी'। पूरे पचास प्रतिशत - उतना ही, जितना पुरुष का हिस्सा। पचास-पचास। इससे अधिक सटीक तरीके से बराबरी का सन्देश दे सकते हैं आप? अन्योन्यस्य। एक-दूसरे के प्रति। वैवाहिक जीवन में भी दोनों की ज़िम्मेदारियाँ हैं। मनुस्मृति कहती है कि न स्त्री और न ही पुरुष वैवाहिक मर्यादा का उल्लंघन करे। इसमें क्या जोड़ देंगे आप क्रांतिकारी कहलाने के लिए? कुछ बाक़ी है क्या? मनुस्मृति कहती है कि नियम दोनों पर हैं।

मनुस्मृति ने स्त्री को महाभागाः (सौभाग्यशालिनी और सौभाग्य लाने वाली) कहा। मनुस्मृति ने स्त्री को पूजार्हाः (सम्मान की अधिकारी) कहा। मनुस्मृति ने स्त्री को गृहदीप्तयः (घर को प्रकाशित और प्रसन्न रखने वाली) कहा। परिवार के सुख का आधार कहा। गृहस्थ-जीवन का प्रत्यक्ष आधार कहा।

अब जिसने परिवार नामक संस्था को ख़त्म करने का लक्ष्य ले रखा हो, उसे ये सब बुरा लगेगा ही। वो पूछेगा कि स्त्री परिवार के सुख के लिए तिनका भी क्यों हिलाए। वो ये नहीं पूछेगा कि मनुस्मृति ने पुरुष को भी स्त्री के भरण-पोषण की ज़िम्मेदारी उठाने को क्यों कहा है।

यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते… रटा-रटाया है, इसीलिए इसे नहीं गिनाया। सबको पता है। इसी प्रसङ्ग में ये भी लिखा है कि जिस घर में स्त्री दुःखी रहती है वह परिवार शीघ्र नष्ट होता है। यानी, परिवार की स्थिति का पैमाना यह तय कर दिया गया है कि उसमें महिलाओं को प्रसन्न रखा जा रहा है या नहीं।

लेकिन नहीं, गाली तो केवल मनुस्मृति को ही पड़ेगी। क़ुरान और बाइबिल का नाम नहीं लिया जाएगा। राहुल गाँधी आज 'स्त्रीवादी' बने हैं, काश मनुस्मृति पढ़ लिया होता कम से कम। पढ़ा तो हमने भी नहीं है, इसीलिए जो कहा जाता है मान लेते हैं। सफाई देने लगते हैं कि ये उस समय की व्यवस्था थी।

मनुस्मृति से अधिक फेमिनिज्म और कहीं नहीं है। फ़िलहाल इस इकोसिस्टम के लिए तो फेमिनिज्म सिर्फ़ अश्लीलता और अंग-प्रदर्शन ही है।

I think the BJP is misdiagnosing the challenge it faces with younger Indians.

The assumption seems to be that this is primarily a communication problem: more Instagram reels, more vertical video, younger lingo, a different style of addressing people.

But that is a first-order response to a much deeper shift on the ground.

Gen Z does not necessarily want political leaders to imitate its language or aesthetic. In fact, trying too hard to do so can make leadership look less authentic.

The problem is not style. It is content.

PM Modi’s great political strength over the last 25 years has been his ability to combine remarkable continuity with constant reinvention: the core remains identifiable, but every few years there is a sense of a new mission.

That was also supported by decades of ideological clarity within the broader ecosystem on issues such as Article 370, Ram Mandir and the UCC.

Many of those longstanding objectives are now either accomplished or substantially advanced.

So the natural question is: what is the next big agenda?

For younger India, I would put three issues near the top. They relate emotionally and intellectually to these 3 issues. Addressing them will naturally connect the BJP with them.

1. Urban governance

For far too long, Indians have accepted cities that are congested, polluted, poorly planned and increasingly difficult to live in.

The Smart Cities Mission had the right ambition, even if its outcomes were uneven. That happens with governments and large programmes.

Now it needs a sharper second avatar.

The PM could identify perhaps 20–25 cities, bring together India’s best architects, urban planners and administrators, and make them demonstrable models of excellent municipal governance.

You do not need to transform every Indian city simultaneously. First create examples that prove it can be done—particularly in BJP-governed states.

2. Government school education

Anyone closely connected with ground realities knows the condition of many state government schools.

This has persisted for decades, across parties and governments, and India should no longer accept it as inevitable. It starts seriously with Nehru Ji- he is often blamed for ignoring school education.

Improving state schools should become a major national political ambition, pursued with willing state governments, measurable outcomes and clear deadlines.

Again, a few states producing dramatically better results can establish a benchmark for the rest of India.

3. Environment and urban green spaces

This is both a quality-of-life issue and one that fits naturally with India’s civilisational emphasis on harmony with nature.

Cities need serious programmes for tree cover, neighbourhood green spaces and large urban “oxygen zones”—not merely symbolic plantation drives, but sustained ecological improvement.

These may sound like softer issues than national security, infrastructure or macroeconomics.

But they shape everyday life—and therefore shape how young Indians experience the country.

A young person may not distinguish between what is constitutionally the responsibility of the Centre, a state government or a municipality. When one political party governs across several of these levels, dissatisfaction inevitably travels upward.

That is why these issues should be taken head-on.

There is also a larger communication point.

Viksit Bharat 2047 is an important national horizon, but 2047 is psychologically very far away—especially for someone who is 20 today.

A long-term vision needs shorter missions within it: concrete national goals for 2030, 2032, 2035 and beyond.

People stay engaged when they can see milestones being crossed.

The next phase could also be presented as a natural progression from the first decade.

From 2014 onward, the focus was necessarily on foundational questions: national security, border infrastructure, highways and expressways, financial inclusion, housing, sanitation, basic economic architecture, digital infrastructure, the space sector and state capacity.

Much of that work must continue.

But the next chapter can increasingly focus on the quality of everyday Indian life:

Better cities.
Better schools.
Cleaner and greener neighbourhoods.
Political renewal does not always require a new slogan or a new medium.
Sometimes it requires a new governing mission. Talk on issues youngsters relate to, unlike just copying their lingo and communication methodology. Once issues are addressed, they will become your warriors taking the msg forward in their style. Style can be tweaked, but not without producing original content.

The answer to a content problem cannot simply be more differently styled content
