Open letter to President Emannuael Macron.

Dear President Macron,

Foremost, let me take this opportunity to welcome you to your second visit to Ethiopia. Of course, if was up to the majority of Ethiopians this visit would not have happened for the very same reason you would be wary of visiting, say, Israel these days (from your perspective, we have no official stand on the issue.) Nonetheless, again, welcome to the land of 13 months of sunshine.

Sir, for the very issue you deride the Israeli government--civilian casualties in a war zone-- the Ethiopian government is at least equally (more, we say) culpable. As your Africa experts are well aware , civilians, not combatants, have always been the main casualties in the government's war of genocide in the Amhara region for over a year now.

And to date, save for all the major international human rights organization of repute, no major western government, including that of France, has seriously condemned it for its brazen disregard of international conventions on rules of engagement in armed conflicts. On the contrary, the regime has been rewarded by a visit of the president of France, a country that is not only one of the major western powers, but also the origin of the universal call for "liberte, egalite and fraternite."

It has been said that morality has no place in international relations, and that the national interest should always prevail, but that is a stance which your government is trying to overcome in its Middle Eastern policy.

We thus ask, why the same lofty standard is not applied else where? Is there a higher standard to which only the Israelis are being asked to measure up to? What is the difference between civilians casualties in Gaza and Ethiopia?

Sir, the intent of this open letter is neither to embarrass or to publicly castigate. We are aware of your domestic situation and have no interest in adding more to your plate. What we hope for , now that you are here, is a candid dialogue with the regime about the war in the Amhara region. A military victory by the regime is inconceivable. Such is the international consensus. Only it's friends can help it to discern this reality. And hopefully, when it comes to its sense it will be less prone to attack civilians.

In the event that it continues in its intransigence, then we count on the international community to stand up against it. A disstabalized horn of Africa is in the interest of no one. @EmmanuelMacron @francediplo_EN

ጥቃቱ የደረሰው በዞኑ የሶዶ ወረዳ ከኦሮሚያ ክልል ምስራቅ ሸዋ ዞን ዱግዳ ወረዳ ጋር በሚዋሰንበት አካባቢ ቢርቢርሳና ጋሌ ቀበሌ ልዩ ስሙ ደረባ፣ ኩሬ እንዲሁም ቢጢሲ ተብለው እስከሚጠሩ ስፍራዎች ነው።

በሸኔ ታጣቂዎች በደረሰው ጥቃት እስከ 40 ሰዎች መገደላቸውንና ከፍተኛ ጉዳት የደረሰባቸው የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎች መኖራቸውን ዛሬ ከስፍራው የደረሱን ተደጋጋሚ መረጃዎች አመላክተዋል።

ጥቃቱ ትላንት ጥቅምት 20 ቀን 2017 ዓ.ም ከምሽቱ 2:00 ገደማ ጀምሮ እስከ እኩለ ለሊት መራዘሙን የጠቆሙት የአካባቢው ነዋሪዎችና የሟቾች ቤተሰቦች በጥቃቱ ሕጻናትን ጨምሮ እናቶችና አረጋውያን መገደላቸውንም ተናግረዋል።

የተከፈተባቸውን ጥቃት መመከት ያልቻሉ አርሶ-አደሮች ቤታቸው ውስጥ እያሉ በእሳት እንዲቃጠሉ በማድረግ ከነከብቶቻቸው እንዲሞቱ መደረጉንም ነዋሪዎች ገልፀዋል።

በአካባቢው የመንግሥት መዋቅሮች በኩል እስካሁን ስለጉዳዩ ግልፅ መረጃም ሆነ ድርጊቱን የሚያወግዝ መግለጫ አልተሰጠም። እንዲህ በሕዝብ ለዛውም በንፁሐን ላይ የሚደርስን ተደጋጋሚ በደልና የሞት ዜናን በዝምታ ማለፍ ፍፁም ተቀባይነት የለውም፤ ዋጋ ያስከፍላል!

ስለምንም ነገር ሕዝብ በጊዜው መረጃ ሊሰጠው ይገባል። መደበቅም ስለማይቻል። የየመዋቅሮቹ የመንግሥት ኮሙኒኬሽን ጉዳዮች ፅህፈት ቤቶች አንዱ የሥራ ጠባይ መገለጫ ይህ ነበር። ''መንግሥት ማለት ሕዝብ ነው'' ስለሚል ሳይንሱ! ነገር ግን ከነርሱ ይህንን መጠበቅ ከባድ ሆኗል። ቢያንስ ግን የፀጥታ አስተዳደር አካል በዚህ ልክ ከፍ ያለ አደጋና ቀውስ ሲከሰት ስለጉዳዩ ጥቂት ነገር ሊል ይገባል።

ነፍስ ይማር!
