>250 million people carry malaria. 600k die from it a year, and many millions have their lives seriously impaired. It's in the top 3 infectious diseases by global burden. This is absolutely enormous.
In the UK, retail electricity company @OctopusEnergy is now offering a £299 / month lease on a BYD Dolphin EV, + free home charging, + vehicle to grid. They're using the vehicle battery as a VPP, to balance the grid and shift peak electricity loads. Sweet deal all around.
The EV cost crossover has arrived in China, right on schedule. Driving electric is now just cheaper than driving a gasoline vehicle. That crossover will arrive in the US and Europe over the next handful of years.
Robotaxis can have a material impact on oil demand & climate change. Why? Because taxis, on average, drive ~5x the miles per year of personally owned cars. So every EV deployed as a taxi displaces 5x the oil consumption. And robotaxis will almost all be electric.
Currently, EVs are displacing ~2m b/d of oil consumption, roughly 2% of demand. Scaling this faster accelerates the peak and decline of oil consumption.
A slightly more positive perspective: The three largest power sectors are cleaning up their electricity supply in lockstep.
Different levels, same trajectory...
Carbon intensity of electricity generation has fallen a lot in China, the US and the EU in the last two decades.
To all the reply guys saying how renewables are a terrible idea.
I hate to break it to you but >90% of new generation capacity built is now renewable energy, mainly solar & wind.
Data from @IRENA
NEW: Cheaper batteries mean near-24/365 solar is now economic☀️
We analysed 18 years of hourly insolation data at 12 places, to see how close to 24/365 electricity it was possible to get.
The sunniest places get over 90% - and up to 99% - of the way... from just $100/MWh. 🧵
Our new paper updating key metrics in the IPCC is now out, and the news is grim:
⬆️ Human induced warming now at 1.36C
⬆️ Rate of warming now 0.27C / decade
⬆️ Sharp increase in Earth's energy imbalance
⬇️ Remaining 1.5C carbon budget only 130 GtCO2
A great graphic showing how cheap utility battery is, compared to residential battery.
(+it's not just capex - installing, financing, maintaining should all be cheaper for utility vs residential)
Policy makers should be focusing on utility battery for best value..
Solar became China's biggest source of clean electricity in the month of May for the first time☀️⚡️
It was bigger than all the hydro🌊 (just)
It was bigger than all the wind🌬️(just)
It was bigger than all the nuclear☢️(by 2.5)
It was bigger than all the bioenergy 🌲(by 8)
More EVs are now sold every year in China than cars - of all sorts - are sold in the US. This trend isn't stopping. EVs are all of the growth in the global auto market since 2017.

Batteries start playing a huge role in energy systems around the world.
Look at California - not long ago you wouldn’t even be able to see the contribution from batteries.
Today batteries can provide more than 20% of peak load in California.
