A new protein-based gel can regenerate tooth enamel.
For generations, dental patients have accepted a hard truth: once tooth enamel is lost, it is gone for good. A major scientific breakthrough has now challenged that limitation.
An international research team led by scientists at the University of Nottingham has developed a biomimetic gel capable of repairing and regenerating damaged tooth enamel. The findings were published in Nature Communications. This fluoride-free treatment uses lab-engineered proteins that mimic the natural processes of enamel formation during infancy.
When applied to the teeth, the gel creates a microscopic scaffold that captures calcium and phosphate ions from the patient’s saliva. It then systematically grows a new mineral layer that integrates seamlessly with the tooth’s original structure.
The innovative gel offers a painless, drill-free alternative to traditional fillings and crowns, which only mask damage rather than heal it. Clinical trials for the biocompatible gel are planned to begin this year, and the development team is already collaborating with the spin-off company Mintech-Bio with the aim of releasing a first commercial product as early as next year.
By providing a permanent, easy-to-apply solution for acid erosion and early-stage cavities, this regenerative technology could fundamentally change routine dental care and spare millions of patients the discomfort of the dental drill.

@dok2001 Before you invent the future, you guys need to fix today. And today, you have false advertising and outdated documentation with virtually no support! In 2026, this should not be an issue, given that you present yourselves as being aware of this thing called AI.
@bryan_johnson Fire your team and talk to @merogenomics! Have they heard of IgG4? How about MCAD? And when you're eating an ethical diet, it's not ethical to thyself! Biohacker on a vegan diet is actually more like a "bio script kiddie"!
@NStoronsky Your RevTag policy is shortsighted! For dual citizens who created their accounts in the wrong regions and have never used them, you force them to close their accounts and create new ones, thereby losing their online identities forever. cc: @Revolut
Today, I’m releasing never before seen intelligence revealing new evidence of past US government funding for more than 120 biolabs in over 30 countries, including Ukraine.
In support of President Trump‘s Executive Order to end federal funding of dangerous gain of function research around the world, and increase transparency and accountability, ODNI will continue working with partners across the Administration to identify where these labs are, what pathogens they contain, and what “research” is being conducted.

@kevinrose@digg@thinkymachines You're very disrespectful! First, we had our Digg profiles and usernames. Then you made us sign up for the "new" Digg and even charged us a fee. Then, it all went down the drain, and you started again... Maybe charge us more to keep our username on the "newer" Digg?!

@MichaelAArouet It's correlation, not causation. Lifespan has been increasing across the board due to advances in cancer treatments and reduced child mortality. In terms of free markets, there was nothing like this in the '90s in Eastern Europe, and there isn't much of it today either.
