Solidity pro tips I wish I knew earlier (2026 edition):

1.) Use custom errors instead of require strings → saves ~200-500 gas per revert

2.) Pack storage vars (uint128 + uint128 in one slot) → halves SLOAD costs

3.) Proxy upgrades? Append vars only + use __gap[50] to avoid layout bugs

4.) Modifiers over internal funcs for access control → cleaner + reusable

5.) Custom errors + events for all critical paths → better debugging & monitoring

6.) Fuzz invariants in Foundry before every PR → catch edge cases early

7.) Slither + manual review combo → no single tool catches everything

These alone cut gas 10-30% and rug risks massively.
