She did this very simply: she recommended Hatchet by Gary Paulsen to me. That was an expert-tier call in both the “supporting literacy progress” dimension, and in the ”understanding young people” dimension. Now I’m an English teacher. School librarians are so, so important.

@EnglishEpiphany Related to peer assessment, I often suggest "ask [student name] if you can see how he/she has written this section, it's a good example". If there aren't any good examples in the class of that aspect of writing, it becomes whole class feedback.
