@cowherpowher@RyanLEllis@catholicpat Sure, let me go scour the web and my diocesan communiqués for years of Exhibit A, B, C, etc. I’ve already seen myself for the benefit of an internet stranger who isn’t paying any attention. I’m not happy about this, btw, but it would help if fellow Catholics weren’t in denial.
@BreeSolstad As a loyal cradle who never apostatized, I think “holy days of obligation” should be done away with and feasts should just be celebrated on their appropriate calendar days. I’m also just tired after 35 years and don’t particularly have the energy to “celebrate” the papacy now.
@JeffCassman@CraigOnan Martyrdom is arguably more inspiring to people’s desire for nobility than having to submit to and defend fake and gay clown Church every week.
@Dracones24601@catholicpat St. Paul did not instruct that bishops be married. He was simply listing characteristics indicative of sobriety to look for in a priest, not delineating a requirement to be married, especially when you read what he says elsewhere about celibacy being a higher calling.
@cowherpowher@RyanLEllis@catholicpat It is painfully obvious when you listen to what most of them say and watch what most of them do. Let he who has ears hear.
@BreeSolstad As a church musician myself, I would literally go over and slam the keyboard cover on that fool’s hands and ask him what the fuck he thinks he’s doing.
@kameraad52@CraigOnan Inviting them to dinner isn’t inviting them to become part of your f***ed up family.
Inviting them to join the Church is asking them to inflict that generational trauma on themselves and their own kids.
@CalmNeil314@HilarityjaneArt@SteveSkojec I do wish God would show up more regularly in that form of “impressing” upon my soul like I felt earlier this year, but there’s nothing we can do to make him come. I just sit and wait for him to decide when he’ll come round like a cat.
@CalmNeil314@HilarityjaneArt@SteveSkojec they are that I have “massive treasures stored up in heaven” for my fidelity through years of dryness and dissatisfaction with God. In the past, I’d have deflected such love as their projections or piety, but I’m choosing to accept it as God speaking to me through them.
@CraigOnan I feel the same way after years of trying to get my best friend since high school to swim the Tiber. And I now have two friends who’ve recently reverted and are finding it all so fulfilling, but I’m honestly exhausted and have this gnawing sense I should warn them of something…
@SteveSkojec@HilarityjaneArt@CalmNeil314 I get that it feels cruel that this being “spent” should be the way a loving father educates us, but experiential knowledge seems to be the strongest pedagogy. Ironically, experience of God is exactly what you desire. I wish I knew why he tarries, though.
@SteveSkojec@HilarityjaneArt@CalmNeil314 but maybe for a few of us, he allows us to spend ourselves throwing ourselves at the worldly part of the institution before realizing that we, too, are missing the one necessary thing. Maybe we have made an idol of the religion and need to be rescued as much as the worldlings do.
