It's #OCDweek! That time of year when we shine a spotlight specifically on #OCD.
I'm gonna start a running thread here about my experience with OCD. Will do my best to add throughout the week.
Please feel free to #AskMeAnything.
Strategies that don’t work for #OCD:
- replacing scary thoughts w positive ones
- distracting yourself from thoughts
- arguing w thoughts
- trying to figure out “why” you’re stuck on a thought (e.g., trying to retrace it to trauma/childhood)

"A bit OCD? I don't think that's a phrase you could use to describe me. I am tormented, I am trapped, I am tortured - but no one can see."
It's #OCDweek, so please watch & share Beth's powerful video on the reality of obsessive compulsive disorder.
"How could I coexist in the same space with someone who didn’t share the same obsession?"
For #OCDWeek, the hilarious @AllisonRaskin told us how she dealt with moving in with her boyfriend...and his dirty backpack.

OCD can feel like a monster! Today's #ocdawarenessweek post by Uzma is an honest and brave account of one woman's battle to tame that monster! Read Uzma's full story here: https://t.co/ebn1dcsC0D
@LorenaFdelaC Looking beyond dry data above, each life lost to #suicide in OCD is a manifestation of our ignorance. Ignorance that it is very treatable, that it is very serious, that despite 2-3% of population having #OCD we miss half of them - who live & suffer in silence #OCDWeek#OCDKills
Exposure based #CBT in childhood #OCD:
- 1 in 3 fully responds by session 7
- early treatment response with younger age, low symptom severity, low functional impairment, internalising/externalising problems, less depressive symptoms & family accommodation
