1/#HERJFund statement re: ongoing dialogue with #CALeg & @CAGovernor about possible inclusion in 2023-24 @CABudget: “Fund remains a critical missing component to ensuring all CA’s, regardless of skin color or zip code, can thrive & live healthy lives.” https://t.co/MMOUr2sZrl
Congratulations to the well-deserving 2023 Dabassa Guyyoo Foundation Scholars: Betel Etafe, Kulani Temesgen, Lensaa Temesgen, Olana Abraham, Samuel Dinkayehu, and Yerusalem Etafe.
On July 1st, our community had a picnic to celebrate our high school graduates ('23). Congratulations to Boona Siraj Abdi, Bonika Gudeta, Ebenezer Ayana, Nagaa Joseph, Sabiye Kelbessa, Sabrina Nejmudin Mohamed, and Sado Mume. We are proud of you all!
We also celebrated the winners of the inaugural Dabassa Guyyoo Foundation Scholarship. Our community is grateful to a generous donor who provided all the funds to establish the Scholarship in honor of the great Dabassa Guyyoo!
We are urging @GavinNewsom to support nonprofit organizations, clinics, and tribal organizations that serve disproportionately impacted communities to address the social determinants of physical health and behavioral health by supporting the Health Equity and Racial Justice Fund!
One of the #HERJFund coalition's greatest strengths is the support we have from over 200 CBOs across the the state. A question to all those orgs doing the "on the ground" work: What #HealthInequities does your community face & in what ways does your org address it? #RacialJustice
By supporting the #HERJFund, CA demonstrate how to TRULY implement community led projects and campaigns that would have a direct impact on building more equitable public health, support racially equitable practices.

#HERJFund would directly fund CBOs/clinics/tribal orgs work to address the conditions that cause #HealthInequities. Examples incl. preventing exposure to toxic pollutants & increasing diverse forms of accessible, walkable & connected green spaces @CAgovernor#RacialJustice#CALeg
Food affordability/availability drive #FoodInsecurity, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities & #CommunitiesofColor. #HERJFund solutions may incl. increasing healthy food access, community gardens in underserved neighborhoods, greater language capacity at food bank
.@CAGovernor has been ahead of country on many issues, incl. marriage equality, immigrant rights, #COVID, & #FoodJustice. By embracing groundbreaking #HERJFund he could also enhance power of communities, improve physical/economic health & provide innovative model for nation.
The #HealthEquity#RacialJustice Fund (#HERJFund) would scale up the innovative work being done by CBOs to address the community conditions that are at the root cause of health disparities, incl. long-standing structural inequities @CAGovernor & #CaLeg: Include Fund in #cabudget!
Tell @CAGovernor: Make history by incl. #HERJFund in #CAbudget & build a model for the nation. By investing in transformative work taking place in communities & by communities we can finally reduce #HealthInequities & advance #RacialJustice! Take action: https://t.co/o3vKnThtCO
