You know how you’d like to stay in bed but the mere act of getting out of bed makes you more productive than just lying there with your laptop? Going to the office is like that. I don’t want to go to the office but I get more done if I do.
There is no proletariat uprising in France. At best, in a Marxist lense is that this is a lumpenproletariat riot, foreigners and a radicalised youth just burning and looting. No vanguard will be established after this, no revolution. Just mass psychosis. Marxism is dead.
Too many people are using "bubble" and "fad" interchangeably. Personally I think AI is a bubble in the sense that the firehouse of VC money will dry up and they'll have to be real businesses, and most of the boutique ventures won't survive.
There’s a bank in Canada that always has ads saying some version of “There’s more to life than money”… I don't disagree but I think a bank should mostly focus on money stuff
@agraybee the left has outsourced the revolution and its associated icky violence to their islamist brethren, naïvely believing they won't be the first purged after it happens
It’s often the opposite.
(The ruling classes frequently exploit students’s black & white thinking and ideological optimism to usher in totalitarian regimes).

“Why are young people economic leftists?”
I can’t answer this question for the francophone world, but in the United States my answer/s would be:
1) young people are broadly extremely misinformed about the structure of Western economic systems. Many of them are convinced that our economies are far more laissez-faire and deregulated than they actually are.
2) young people are extremely misinformed about the sheer quantity of government spending, and especially how much the government spends relative to the income/wealth of the richest people (e.g. all the assets of every billionaire in America would fund single payer healthcare for a year and a half)
3) young people broadly feel like the ability to accumulate wealth is not a benefit to them and like they are locked out of systems of asset accumulation.
4) in youth circles, economic griping is paradoxically often “high status.” developing radical political approaches wrt cost of living is generally viewed positively.
Reminder that this entire thing stemmed from the government diverting education funds to pensions, and when the government tried to reform pensions, the exact same people rioted
“An entire generation humiliated”, and they will literally riot if the government tries to help
The French love to flex how they ruin their own cities every other year but never ask themselves why they have to burn down their cities every other year. Maybe the riots aren't actually effective at any long term solutions
