Crown shyness is a fascinating natural phenomenon observed in some tree species, where the crowns of fully grown trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps. The patterns resulting from crown shyness look very similar to certain types of fractals.
If you think that LLMs are performing at the intellectual level of human beings, make that claim on twitter and observe how the human beings flock in and demonstrate their actual intellectual level; it's quite depressing, really
Very happy to share our new paper that will appear in @unireps
We show improvements of zero-shot model stitching through invariance to symmetries in parameter space, and topological regularization of the latent spaces

What's really going on in machine learning? Just finished a deep dive using (new) minimal models. Seems like ML is basically about fitting together lumps of computational irreducibility ... with important potential implications for science of ML, and future tech...

Nils Aall Barricelli's pioneering work on #ALife simulations in the 1950s laid the foundation for artificial life research. His experiments simulated digital symbio-organisms as simple integer numbers. Made with #python, #matplotlib, #numpy, #numba.
