It was a privilege to chair @OpenLabour’s ‘Our Last Best Chance’ event & to have such great speakers from here at home as well as across the world.
We face a global climate emergency & we must work together to find those bold, progressive & internationalist solutions 🌍🌹
.@lloyd_rm speaking at @OpenLabour event tonight during #COP26, says as a society we must prioritise meeting people’s needs, over and above any focus on GDP.
✊🏼 Climate justice is social justice
🍩 It’s time for doughnut economics
Incredible #COP26@OpenLabour fringe in Glasgow tonight with parliamentarians on the left from across the world 🌎 Socialism is quite literally our only hope to stop climate catastrophe 🚩
Chaired supremely by @OpenLab_Scot chair and @Labour_GCC depute leader @EvaCMurray 🌹
Our final parliamentary speaker from the UK is @lloyd_rm speaking about the difference real and socialist leadership can make to address the climate conference in stark contrast to the dismal direction we are being taken in under Boris Johnson’s Tories #cop26
.@PaulJSweeney talks passionately about how it is our job to make sure that when we celebrate achieving targets such as cutting carbon emissions, we must strive for a global effect, and stand with solidarity with workers around the world, to achieve climate justice.
My message to the @OpenLabour@serauk event at #cop26 is that time is running out to deliver the bold and urgent action we need to cut carbon and protect nature. We need action in this decisive decade not by some far flung aspirational date, but by 2030.
Next from is @AnnaMcMorrin, who talks about the good work in Wales to ensure that every public body is functioning as sustainably as possible; as well as the need for the electorate to demand politicians of all level put climate action at the top of the agenda.
🔥
.@LukePollard speaks powerfully about the fact that it’s our job to make a powerful play to people across the country about both cutting our carbon emissions, and biodiversity. Says we have a choice to solve both or neither, not one or the other.
Senator @jaqueswagner, Former Governor of Bahia&Former Chief of Staff to President Dilma Rousseff and Minister of Labour under President Lula, states that taking care of the planet is a survival matter, and it’s important for us to think about how we can go forward.
Wonderful also to have Daniela Vilar, Member of the Argentinian Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Commission in the Chamber of Deputies!
Senator Alice-Mary Higgins, (@aliceeire) Member of Irish Climate Action Committee is giving an excellent talk on the need to make sure we keep pushing Governments to go further in commitments to tackle climate change🔥
Up next is Alessia Rotta, President of the Italian Parliament Environmental Committee and Global Parliamentary Co-Rapporteur on COP26, who discusses the need for funding green infrastructure and building efficiency.
Alex also notes and celebrates the broad range of people at our event - and how thats emblematic of the approach we should take to fight climate change!🔥
Tonight I’m speaking at the @OpenLabour@serauk event in #glasgow about #cop26 featuring UK and international speakers. The climate and ecological crisis is not just about carbon abs nature, it’s a social justice and fairness crisis too.
Parliamentary Rep @alexsobel starts the international panel and stresses the need to utilise the best ideas of progressive left wing parties around the world to fight climate change. Alex also raises the crucial issue of deforestation and how we must take swift action to stop it.
