My power’s really low, so this may be the last image I can send. Don’t worry about me though: my time here has been both productive and serene. If I can keep talking to my mission team, I will – but I’ll be signing off here soon. Thanks for staying with me.
During a 6-month stay aboard the @Space_Station, astronauts are exposed to the same amount of radiation as ~1000 chest x-rays. NASA research into a way to assess the damage from this radiation forms the basis of a new diagnostic for cancer treatment. https://t.co/0twrlVJY9h

60 years ago today, Mercury "Sigma 7" launched Wally Schirra on the fifth flight of an American astronaut. His primary objective was to test methods of conserving attitude control fuel to extend flight and would let the spacecraft drift for long periods to better understand.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of Mercury-Atlas 8. At 4:41 am ET, astronaut Walter Schirra was loaded into the Sigma 7 capsule for a 9-hour, 6-orbit flight around Earth. It was the first time the launch was relayed via the Telstar satellite to television audiences in Europe.
