Delighted to welcome my dear brother, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Pakistan today.

This was our first meeting after the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum and the first round of technical talks in Burgenstock.

DPM Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, were also present, alongwith senior Cabinet members and government officials.

We held warm and most cordial discussions wherein we reaffirmed our shared commitment to regional peace and the importance of pursuing dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all outstanding issues.

We also agreed to further strengthen the enduring Pakistan-Iran relationship and expand cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

I conveyed Pakistan’s deep appreciation for the wise and sagacious leadership of His Eminence Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and paid tribute to my dear brother President Pezeshkian and the Iranian leadership for guiding their brave and resilient nation with honour, patience and dignity during a challenging period.

I thanked the Iranian leadership for reposing its abiding trust in Pakistan as a sincere friend, neighbour and mediator.

A Historic Visit, A Stronger Partnership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States would evolve into a long-term agreement following 60 days of technical-level dialogue, helping ensure peace and stability across the world.

Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister congratulated the nation on a historic development, saying that the MoU had been signed by Iran and the United States, with Pakistan serving as a mediator.

"It is a historic moment that Pakistan signed the MoU as a mediator between Iran and the United States," he remarked.

The prime minister informed the House that the leadership of both countries participated in a high-level committee meeting in Burgenstock, Switzerland, a couple of days ago. He said Pakistan made sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue and reconciliation between the two sides, resulting in the preparation of a joint statement.

He said a ceasefire between Iran and the United States had come into effect and that technical-level talks would continue over the next 60 days.

Congratulating the nation, Shehbaz Sharif described Pakistan's role in securing the truce as historic, adding that the country's efforts had received widespread recognition in international media.

"The respect Pakistan has earned around the world through this achievement could not have been bought even by spending billions," he said.

The prime minister also informed the House that Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad later in the day, where discussions would be held on further expanding bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Referring to remarks made by Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai in the National Assembly, the prime minister said all four provinces had contributed to the development of Balochistan, which he termed a matter of satisfaction.

He reiterated his longstanding view that Pakistan could not achieve sustainable economic development unless all four provinces progressed equally.

Alhamdulillah, the First High-Level Committee Meeting under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has concluded successfully in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

The discussions were held in a positive and constructive atmosphere and yielded encouraging progress, including agreement on a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days, the establishment of a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight, and the commencement of further technical talks.

I commend the leadership of both the United States as well as Iran for their continued commitment to constructive engagement, and thank all brotherly and friendly countries for their valuable support in advancing this historic process.

In particular, I would like to express my gratitude to our brotherly country Qatar, for its critical support in creating the conditions necessary for these negotiations to move forward.

A word of thanks to the Swiss Government for their facilitation in hosting these talks.

I would like to pay special tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir whose untiring efforts made these talks a success. His dedication, commitment and perseverance are indeed commendable without which there would have been no progress.

I would like to pay my warm compliments and heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, for his diplomatic efforts along with his team at the Foreign Office. I also deeply appreciate the hard work of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi who contributed immensely to the success of these talks.

Pakistan will continue to play its honest and sincere role in advancing dialogue and diplomacy towards a peaceful and lasting resolution.

ISLAMABAD: 19 june 2026.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this evening.

During their warm and cordial conversation, the Prime Minister congratulated Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the signing of the historic Islamabad Peace Deal.

The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for his steadfast and consistent support to Pakistan’s peace efforts and paid tribute to him for leading the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with great wisdom and sagacity throughout this crisis.
He said that it was only with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s strong support, as well as the support of other Gulf states, that the peace deal between Iran and the U.S. was signed within a few months.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated the Prime Minister and praised the untiring efforts of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, that led to the successful signing of the peace deal.
The two leaders agreed that now, it would be vital to ensure that the next phase of negotiations between Iran and the U.S. progresses smoothly, and the outstanding issues are resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. In this regard, they both stressed upon the need to ensure vigilance against any attempt to derail the negotiation process.

While expressing satisfaction on the excellent state of bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister stated that the two sides were ready to finalize and sign the comprehensive economic package, under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. He also reiterated his invitation to His Royal Highness to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his kind convenience.
Availing himself of this opportunity, the Prime Minister also conveyed his respectful regards and good wishes to The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The two leaders agreed to continue their close coordination in the days ahead.
