We are getting an upgrade to a 100 year old bldg that has been maintained at $0/year for > a decade. This is why they shuffle principals every few years. No one can keep track of what promises were made when. And nobody to hold @VSB39 or @bcedplan accountable. @JM_Whiteside 2/2

We have been saying this for years. Unfortunately not uncommon with public infrastructure that is funded on a yearly model. Our school in particular was told for 10+ years that no maintenance would be done as we would get a new seismically safe building. Well we are not. 1/2

@KarmSumal @BluCollarBrigad @j_mcelroy Developer levies and property taxes go to @CityofVancouver, which does not fund schools. Schools are entirely provincially funded by @bcedplan. Planning is done one year at a time with outdated population data. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@JM_Whiteside It would be great if you also said what the current deferred maintenance is by school and how it is changing with this funding. In fact, add to all seismic announcements as well.

@gmehra1981 @Brendalkb @school_olympic Yes, but that ship has sailed. It would have been ideal in terms of taxpayer efficiency. Now we have a chance to combine upgrade with expansion.

@pattibacchus @VSB39 @vikkhanna Even if it did factor into planning (it doesn’t), @bcedplan won’t fund anyway because @VSB39 won’t make hard choices to address empty seats. Pitting families in dense areas against families in small/half-full schools.

@vikkhanna @GeorgeHeyman @markalanfriesen @GeorgeHeyman made a campaign promise to have a meeting to discuss. We shall see if that actually comes to pass. It’s already been a few years with nothing but inaction and disinterest.
