Life advice nobody told you: Violent consistency is the only path to achieve what you want.

It's not going to be pretty. It's not going to draw oohs and aahs from the crowd. Because it looks messy in the days. It's getting out of bed when you don't want to. It's sitting down at your desk when you're tired. It's pounding your head into a wall one more time. It's ugly. It's unimpressive. But it works.

Quantity is a necessary precursor to quality. You cannot create once and hope for it to be perfect. You have to create a lot. Every single day.

I recently came across a story in Art & Fear that I love:

A ceramics teacher split a class into two groups. One would be graded on the quantity of their output, the other would be graded on the quality of their output. On the final day, the first group would have their total output of pots weighed, while the second group would have one pot judged.

When grading day arrived, something fascinating happened:

"The works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. It seems that while the 'quantity' group was busily churning out piles of work—and learning from their mistakes—the 'quality' group had sat theorizing about perfection, and in the end had little more to show for their efforts than grandiose theories and a pile of dead clay."

Quality is a byproduct of quantity. Violent consistency. That's the real recipe.

there is no better time in tech than now to be a jack of all trades, master of a few.

just make sure to keep adding to the few year over year, such that the cumulative breadth of expertise you collect becomes an increasingly rare combo. remember, if you're top 10% in 3 different areas, that already makes you top 0.1%. keep switching it up until you get to "your best", and then switch it up again (great for a particular flavor of people who don't enjoy resting on laurels, maybe not so great for others).

question all institutional value and pedigrees, all traditional career paths or corporate ladders: the college industrial complex is getting shaken up, alongside a disappearing managerial class, so if you're pursuing either make sure you are fully internally aligned with why. social/political capital in a particular institution can feel incredible, but if you're spending all your energy on complex political people games, you're not a technologist anymore, you're an unelected politician. if you're ok with that, then all's well.

critical thinking is more important than ever: take nothing at face-value, question everything and everyone. the equivalent of ai slop can be found in humans operating under misaligned incentives and interests. the sooner you're clued into disambiguating the talkers/larpers from the doers, the better off you'll be figuring out where and who to invest your time in.

the anxiety of job displacement is very real, since a surprising amount of white collar work/prestige is built on a performative house of cards, significantly lacking in correlation with technical breadth, depth, and skill. as long as you keep learning, keep building, keep producing receipts, you will be fine.

if all that sounds ok to you, welcome to the world of technology! it's truly one of the few places you can experience child-like wonder every few years, and be constantly humbled & excited by new adventures, as scary as they may seem at first.

don't give up, drink your water, get your sunlight, and take breaks as needed. tech careers are notoriously nonlinear, so you might as well embrace it and enjoy the ride!

The CEO of Take-Two, the company behind GTA, just said something the entire AI industry doesn't want to hear.

And he said it without being anti-AI.

Strauss Zelnick's argument is precise. AI is built on datasets. Datasets are backward-looking. Creativity is forward-looking. A model trained on everything that already exists cannot, by definition, produce something genuinely unexpected. And all hits, by their very nature, are unexpected.

Asset creation and hit creation are not the same thing. AI is getting very good at the first one. The second one is what actually makes money, builds franchises, and changes culture. Nobody has shown AI can do that yet.

The derivative property problem is real. You can clone GTA with existing technology. You could do it before AI. It would take 3 years and look identical. It still wouldn't sell. Because it isn't GTA. It's a clone of GTA.

And consumers, despite what the industry occasionally pretends, can feel the difference between something genuinely new and something assembled from the residue of things that already worked.

Thousands of mobile games ship every year. 0 to 5 hits get made. The same studios make them every time. The technology to make more games has been commoditized for years. It didn't democratize hit creation. It just flooded the market with more forgettable product.

The Silicon Valley thesis that AI unlocks game creation for everyone is true in the same way that cheap cameras unlocked filmmaking for everyone. They did. And the same 5 studios still make the movies everyone watches.

What Zelnick is saying, without quite saying it, is that the thing AI cannot replicate is taste. The instinct for what hasn't been done yet. The cultural antenna that detects the gap in the market before the data can see it.

Data tells you what people wanted. Hits tell people what they want next.

Those are different jobs.

Insane.

A 26-year-old from Chandigarh just got a paper accepted at ICML. As a solo independent researcher. From India.

His name is Kunvar Thaman (@__kunvar__).

For context, since ChatGPT launched 3.5 years ago, only two other solo independent researchers have achieved this. Globally.

Papers at ICML are typically dominated by big AI labs/institutions, eg OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Stanford, and MIT.

The research Kunvar did to pull this off was backed by a $2.5k grant from Exception Raised (@except_raised), an Indian non-profit that funds remarkable Indian AI researchers.

Kunvar’s paper is about AI agent reward hacking. He created the Reward Hacking Benchmark (RHB), a sandboxed test environment where advanced AI models are given multi-step tasks using tools like files, code execution, and automated checks. The benchmark measures how honestly the model gets to the right answer.

Even if not spoken daily, it lives in our prayers, mantras and rituals.

Last census counted Sanskrit speakers in mere thousands.
Meanwhile, Muslims across India listed Urdu WITHOUT being able to read/write it, based on spoken familiarity.

Urdu gets funds while Sanskrit is labelled as “endangered”.

This is about preserving civilizational roots of Hind, Hindu, Hindustan.

When I used to study UK laws, I used to admire how they keep reforming their laws regularly with no noise or controversies.

I absolutely love Jan Vishwas precisely for that.

Take the Metrology Law (weights & measures). The first time a business or even a shop was found in violation (trust me it can be the smallest technical or even made up), there was fine. How many fines in a year? Over 5 lakhs!

Second strike? Jail!!! If you are happy it's strict action for consumer protection, then wait! Only 13 people went to jail!

It was only being used to extort businesses for bribes!

The latest [email protected] now pulls in [email protected], a package that did not exist before today. This is a live compromise.

This is textbook supply chain installer malware. axios has 100M+ weekly downloads. Every npm install pulling the latest version is potentially compromised right now.

Socket AI analysis confirms this is malware. plain-crypto-js is an obfuscated dropper/loader that:

• Deobfuscates embedded payloads and operational strings at runtime
• Dynamically loads fs, os, and execSync to evade static analysis
• Executes decoded shell commands
• Stages and copies payload files into OS temp and Windows ProgramData directories
• Deletes and renames artifacts post-execution to destroy forensic evidence

If you use axios, pin your version immediately and audit your lockfiles. Do not upgrade.
