No Democrats are running “to the right of Trump” on Iran.
But pointing out that he is settling the war on objectively terrible terms rather than just praising him for ending it is important to the politics of deterring future absurd wars.
@mattyglesias My take is that there shouldn’t have been a primary challenge to Golden, primary challenges everywhere should be subject to and conditional on Party approval, but that Golden’s passion for serving, especially compared to his colleagues, is the limiting factor here.
@JakeMGrumbach Golden is retiring because being a congressman really isn’t that important to him. Ilhan Omar and Nancy Mace probably get 50-100x and 10-20x more threats than him, respectively, all of them more credible. I’m confident that neither of them will be retiring anytime soon.
Okay but these guys just plunged us into a months-long war that the Biden administration avoided, thus averting the need for Biden officials to do takes.
Warrenism spreading to Canada, I see. Grocery stores make almost no profits, so trying to drive their profits lower will just force them out of business, causing food deserts.
Obviously, there's no constitutional right to a same-race jury. Jurors have a constitutional right not to be struck on the basis of race.
Anthony raised a Batson challenge on that basis. But a judge already said the strikes were not pretextual, and that gets deference.
@JoePostingg I wish the party was controlled like a military regiment, with everyone following orders from an elite command, but I don’t think we could possibly be any farther from that ever being the case.
@JoePostingg I’m sorry but when have “Democrats” ever cleared the field for anyone? If someone thinks they can’t win, they won’t run, but that’s it. They can do what they want.
@jakehalloran1@turribledood@Noahpinion Sam Seder really isn’t the ‘smart’ progressive that you’re talking about. You’re just a bit ignorant about this issue and what progressives, to a person, have been saying about it for a very long time now.
@jakehalloran1@turribledood@Noahpinion Raiding the tax cap won’t bring solvency, it’ll just kick the can down the road another twenty years or so. But acting like this is some third rail for Democrats is brain poisoning from reading too many takes on here. https://t.co/Fv8R1nzLFt
One thing that I think people forget is that by 2013, an enormous and unprecedented gap had opened up between college and non-college whites. The latter half of the Obama years saw the electoral conditions for Trump’s victory set in place well before Trump descended the escalator
From 1966 to 2025 we dropped sterile flies over South America that ate screwworm and thus prevented them from spreading, but the le epic efficient cracked coders at DOGE thought this was a silly waste of the ~0 dollars it cost us.
IMO this is like the worst case scenario story from a partisan standpoint. It isn't strong enough to push him out, but it also will entrench existing concerns about his candidacy and character. So supporters and critics will dig in.
i will never forgive the American people for voting this guy back into office because of burger and gas prices just to watch him put worms in the burgers and shut off 20% of the world's oil supply
