This tweet highlights one main topic we learned about this semester. It is easy to find a lot of nutrition information online, but it isn't always true or evidence based. It is always important to do our research! @beh353#beh353
The 2010s was the decade of health misinformation. Let's make the 2020s the decade of evidence. Celebrities aren't experts, anecdote is not evidence and critical thinking is sexy. Great article by @CaulfieldTim

@MMansour0808@beh353 Great points Michael! It is so important to build trust with future patients. Like you mentioned, it is always important to do your research and reach out for help from professionals when we need it! You're going to be awesome! Great nutrition=better life! @beh353#beh353
Nutrition is important because everyone eats! As a future healthcare provider, I'll always remember to find credible sources, collaborate with RDs for health care plans, and work to create a safe space for patients to share their concerns and nourish their bodies! @beh353#beh353
Everyone eats food. Food is medicine. There are many ways to learn about nutrition, but we have to find reputable/evidence based sources when doing so. Understanding our relationship with food helps us respond to the link between nutrition and overall health. @beh353#beh353
@Haley_Shaw13@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 I agree! @EmmaDArpinoRD was awesome! I learned so much from her. Emma really highlighted the importance of learning to depend on the health care team as there is a lot of misinformation about nutrition out in the world. Nutrition is a huge part of care! @beh353#beh353
Thanks @EmmaDArpinoRD! We CAN eat processed foods! Frozen foods CAN provide more nutritional benefits than fresh b/c they retain vitamins/minerals. Processing can make food unhealthy, but it isn't all bad. Nutrition is a part of care, so let's learn from experts! @beh353#beh353
Food insecurity is becoming more prevalent in U.S. households. In most cases, if the children are food insecure, the adults are too. Knowing this, will this change how we promote healthy eating to children? How does this impact children in their future? @beh353#beh353
This NIH article explained the importance of being mindful about nutrition during pregnancy. It had specific information about weight gain/calorie intake during each trimester. It also had many links to specific articles. Easy read! https://t.co/wUx7GMUmo0 @beh353#beh353
@MoracaCassandra@beh353 You found a great article Cassandra! I think this article is relevant, easy to read, and reputable. I also think this article is really helpful as it provides links to other resources related to healthy eating among people who have Alzheimer's. @beh353#beh353
Ultra processed foods are often more affordable and accessible than whole foods. However, processed foods are engineered to have addictive properties. Their appeal has contributed to the obesity prevalence in the U.S. We have to be mindful of the food we eat! @beh353#beh353
@minhtrann5@beh353 We should be mindful that there are many causes of obesity and everyone has different struggles. The stigma associated with being overweight is often more harmful than being overweight. It's important to be empathetic and open minded when discussing obesity. @beh353#beh353
Positive patient/provider relationships are important for patient self efficacy and empowerment. Stigmas associated with being overweight are more harmful than actually being overweight. We should be support patients instead of "prescribing tough love". @beh353#beh353
The consumption of sugar sweetened beverages has been linked with increased risk of obesity. Should these beverages be taxed to discourage their consumption? Taxing sweetened beverages is a step in changing environmental factors to improve behavioral choices. @beh353#beh353
Great points, Donna! It's important to educate others that causes of obesity may not necessarily be due to individual factors, but external ones too. Educating and providing people with resources can directly make a change in their lifestyle and behavioral habits. @beh353#beh353
I think it is important for people to start being educated about the frequent causes of obesity and offer a list of resources for parents to understand that their choices for grocery shopping, directly affect their children's lifestyle and behavioral habits. @beh353#beh353

40-50% of children's caloric intake is consumed in school. 90% of students eat lunch at school. We should ensure that healthy food is accessible to all children in schools. Obesity is not necessarily caused by individual factors, but environmental ones too. @beh353#beh353
Food tracking apps can reduce many barriers to having a healthier diet! Having a food tracking app may increase one's motivation to eat healthy, increase self-regulation, and provide suggestions on how to prepare and cook healthy foods at an affordable cost. @beh353#beh353
#FoodTracking apps have made it easier than ever to document everything you eat as you eat it. Science shows they enhance #weightloss, but psychology suggests they can distort relationships with food. Latest vid featuring an interview with @allisonknottrd https://t.co/jzqn1nmXPg
Baseline hunger and lack of satiation influence the snacks I choose-especially when I am grocery shopping! I often end up picking cheaper, sweeter, or premade foods instead of healthier options. To help this, I should try to prepare healthy snacks ahead of time. @beh353#beh353
@ros_teda @beh353 I love that idea Teda! I think making a grocery list will be helpful in saving time and sticking to a budget! Where do you usually shop for groceries? How do you usually decide how to plan your meals for the week? @beh353#beh353
This label was very interesting! The first thing I noticed was the "Energy Health" health claim. It was surprising to see the natural cherry flavor that was present on the ingredients list. Although it claims it was USP tested, USP is not a government entity. @beh353#beh353
